Baltimore Orioles vs Chicago White Sox Analysis

The Chicago White Sox will battle the Baltimore Orioles in the rubber match of their three game series from Camden Yards on Thursday evening. The first two games of the series had the same score with different results as the White Sox avenged a 5-3 loss with a victory by the same score last night.

The Orioles sit 2.5 games outside of a Wild Card spot, while the White Sox sit four games back in both the Wild Card and their division. The journeyman Jordan Lyles gets the nod for Baltimore, while the 35 year-old veteran Lance Lynn toes the rubber for Chicago. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST/4:05 PST.

Lynn Looks To Ride Momentum

The Chicago White Sox have been hovering around the .500 mark all season hope to make a playoff push late in the season. They upped their record to 63-61 after evening up the series with a 5-3 triumph of their own last night.

The Pale Hose were able to score five runs despite not having an extra-base hit. Gavin Sheets went 3 for 5 with three RBI. Lucas Giolito was sharp with 6.1 innings of one run baseball. Liam Hendricks gave up two runs in the top of the 9th to make things closer than they needed to be.

The White Sox need the back end of the lineup to contribute more as only three players have 10+ home runs. This season has fallen well short of expectations for Lance Lynn with a 3-5 record and 5.30 ERA.

However he has limited the damage in three of his last four starts. Last time out he held the Cleveland Guardians to only one run across 5.2 innings of work.

O’s Need Run Support For Lyles

The Baltimore Orioles have been one of better teams in the American League recently, going 13-8 in August. However they are now .500 across their last six games after losing 5-3 last night.

Spenser Watkins did his part with six innings of two run baseball, but the bullpen let him down. Austin Hayes hit a two run blast for his 14th of the season, while Cedric Mullins & Ryan Mountcastle each had two hits.

As the Orioles lineup heats up they creep up the offensive statistics as they currently rank 17th in runs scored. At 64-59 the O’s sit 2.5 games behind in the Wild Card standings. Jordan Lyles gets his turn in the rotation after giving up four runs on nine hits in only four innings against the Boston Red Sox.

He is 9-9 on the season with a 4.61 ERA on the season. Lyles has some scary underlying numbers with a 4.82 xERA, 10.6 barrel percentage and .445 expected slugging percentage.

Baltimore Orioles vs Chicago White Sox Prediction

This game is a virtual pick’em with the Chicago White Sox money line set at -120, while the Baltimore Orioles sit at +100 with a total of 8. The Orioles still control the season series with a 4-2 edge despite losing last night.

Both of these teams have been carried by their lineups and with Lynn & Lyles on the mound they should score early and often. The White Sox can hit for contact and take advantage of Lyles, while the Orioles have the power to hammer Lynn.

I considered over 4 in F5 considering Baltimore has one of the leagues premiere bullpens. However if we are at five runs after five innings I’m confident we can get another 3 or 4 throughout the remainder of the game. Over 8 it is!

Prediction: Over 8 Runs Scored -110
