New York Giants vs Philadelphia Eagles Predictions

  • New York Giants +3.5 vs Philadelphia Eagles
  • Total: 46 Points
  • The Giants have covered the spread in six of the last eight meetings in this series.
  • The under is 13-3 in the Giants’ last 16 games.

The Philadelphia Eagles (5-6, 4-2 Away) showed the franchise’s promise, and football pundits believed Jalen Hurts, the Eagles quarterback of the future, would by this stage of his young NFL career. This year’s schedule has turned the corner and is heading down the season’s backstretch. The Eagles are coming off a blowout win over the New Orleans Saints this past Sunday. The score suggests the game was one-sided, with a 40-29 final in Sunday’s Week 11 tilt at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles division rival New York Giants (3-7, 2-3 Home) continue to build up their fan base just to let them down, and as the lyrics to Build Me Up by the Foundations suggests that in the end,,, “mess me around.” Considering the offseason free-agent spend by the New York Giants franchise this past summer, that includes the number-one wide receiver money it took to secure Kenny Golladay, that and other nickel and dime purchases the front office made, all things equal the 2021 season results have been a bust.

The Eagles, however, have made significant gains through the first half of the campaign. Philadelphia has scored 40 points a pair of matchups recently. It marks the first time the Eagles have flown north of the 40 mark twice in one season since 2017. In addition, Philly has scored 30 points or more on five different occasions, albeit one of those 30 point game explosions morphing into a loss.

The Eagles’ 40 points against the Saints on Sunday is somewhat deceiving. Quarterback Hurts threw for just 1Eagles’ds in the victory, and the Eagles running backs combined with Hurts’ 69 yards rushing colluded to record 242 total yards of rushing. Those 242 yards came against the top rushing defense in the league, New Orleans.

The Giants are tied for 24th in the league in opponent yards per rushing attempt. As productive as the Eagles have been offensive as of late, and the struggles that this Philadelphia defense has experienced against the elite QBs in the league, a matchup against the Giants looks and sounds like an uber favorable matchup for Hurts, his Philly teammates, and the fan base.

Daniel Jones is a stretch to fit the ideal quarterback shoe size. He has had several 15-minute moments in his young career, but he has also had his failures. This past Monday night, the young former-Duke Blue Devil doesn’t have the football IQ one would think from a Duke alum.

Defensive big Leonard Williams didn’t register a sack or a hurry against Brady, but his numbers at home find him with a sack in three of his last four games at MetLife Stadium.

We are through 11 weeks of the 2021 season, and young and skilled players like Jalen Hurts will continue to be the most critiqued player personnel on any rosters, let alone the Eagles. Philly must approach each remaining game like it was their last, or it very well could be if there is any Lincoln Financial Field regression overdue. The Eagles welcome the New York Giants to Lincoln.

The Eagles TE Dallas Goedert had five catches for 62 yards against the Saints, including three for first downs on third downs. Young Hurts has garnered a relationship with the Eagles’ tight ends. The Eagles have a combined 870 yards rushing in the last four games. They’ve run for big numbers that find Philly gaining 200-plus yards in consecutive games for the first time since 1978.

Eagles have placed LB Davion Taylor (knee) on IR and signed LB Christian Elliss to the practice squad. Additionally, RB Jordan Howard (knee) isn’t expected to play, and as mentioned, Taylor (knee) is out. Giants TE Kyle Rudolph (ankle) and WR Kadarius Toney (quad) were knocked out of Monday night’s game. WR Sterling Shepard (quad) was on the field at practice on Wednesday. All three rate as questionable for Sunday’s game.

The division rivals play twice in the next five weeks, and this matchup is favorable for the Eagles, who believe they still have a shot at a postseason slot. The Eagles have won nine of the last ten against the Giants, and that trend is expected to stay the course this weekend.

Do not expect the Giants to morph into a smooth operation. Less than a week since the Giants’ firing of offensive coordinator Jason Garrett on Tuesday can’t be much other than a distraction.

New York had a season-low 215 yards against the Bucs on Monday. This Sunday’s gameday numbers against an aggressive Eagles defense when all is said and done figures to find a repeat in production from the Giants pedestrian quarterback. So eagles minus the points in the Meadowlands is the recommended position to take when the Eagles and Giants do the tango.

New York Giants vs Philadelphia Eagles Analysis from The GoldSheet

As the NFL’s version of Air Force, Philly has now rushed for 175+ yards in four straight games, and no one between the Schuykill and the Susquehanna is talking any more about making a trade for Deshaun Watson now that Jalen Hurts is looking like the next coming of Randall Cunningham, with 3 TD passes in the rousing win over the Saints and a neat spin move on his 24-yard TD run that even Sixers stopper Matisse Thybulle would have trouble defending. And the Eagles have a new scoring weapon in DB Darius Slay, who has remarkably scored TDs in three of the past four games!

Now, it would be in character for the Birds to lay an egg at MetLife just as the locals were overheating and talking playoffs, but we have long abided by our technical rules for the G-Men, which advises a take when getting points on the road but extreme caution with short prices at home. As Saquon Barkley has proven about as durable as Zion Williamson, who knows when he next goes on the shelf, and while Daniel Jones has had his moments this season, we’d rather not trust NY unless the oddsmakers give us a bit more cushion.
