New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox Analysis
The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees begin a four game series from Yankee Stadium on Thursday evening. The Yankees hammered the Pittsburgh Pirates in a quick two game sweep while the Red Sox ended up splitting two games in Cincinnati against the Reds.
This will be the last head-to-head series between these clubs as the Red Sox wont be sniffing the post-season. New York will open the series with the veteran righty Jameson Taillon while Boston counters with a veteran righty of their own in Michael Wacha. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM EST/4:15 PST.
Red Sox Ready For 2023
The Boston Red Sox are essentially playing out the string in what has become a disappointing season to say the least. They knew the American League East would be highly competitive but finishing dead last wasn’t on the agenda. They lost 5-1 last night in Cincinnati against the 59-90 Reds.
Connor Seabold got knocked around for four runs on six hits across five innings of work. Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers both went 2 for 4 with singles but the team didn’t have an extra-base hit. Boston will send Michael Wacha to the mound for Thursdays contest.
Wacha has been outstanding for the Sox going 11-1 with a stellar 2.61 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. He hasn’t faced the Yankees yet this season, but held the Kansas City Royals to one run while scattering seven hits across seven innings in his last outing.
Judge Chases History Against Greatest Rival
The stage is set for Aaron Judge to chase history in pursuit of the all-time record of 61 set by Roger Maris. He currently sits on 60 and is staring down four games at Yankee Stadium against their greatest rivals the Boston Red Sox.
The Yanks upped their record to 90-58 after thumping the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-2 on Wednesday. Aaron Judge only went 2 for 4 with two doubles, but was outshined by Gleyber Torres, who went 3 for 4 with two homeruns and five RBI.
New York has a commanding lead in American League East with a 6.5 game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays with only 14 games to play. Jameson Taillon will toe the rubber for the Yanks on Thursday evening.
He is 13-5 on the year with a 4.04 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. Taillon has had mixed results against Boston this season as he has allowed 10 earned runs across 17 innings of work.
New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox Prediction
The New York Yankees are heavily favored with a money line set at -145 while the Boston Red Sox sit at +125 with a total set at 8. The focus of this game will be Aaron Judge looking for 61 & 62 homeruns on the season and rightfully so as nothing significant can happen in the standings.
The Red Sox have been disappointing this season, but they still have a potent lineup. They have faced Taillon three times and hit him well, so they should be able to do their share of damage at the plate.
Wacha has been brilliant, but a 4.07 xERA compared to a 2.61 ERA suggests regression is due. The Yankee bats should be locked in at home with the excitement in the air.
If New York doesn’t do damage against Wacha, they will surely feast on what has become a bottom tier bullpen. Let’s take a shot with the over 8 tonight and of course a Judge homerun sprinkle at +240 odds.
Predictions:
Over 8 -110 DK
Sprinkle Aaron Judge HR +240
