Phoenix Suns vs Portland Trail Blazers Prediction : The Analysis

The Phoenix Suns play host to the Portland Trailblazers in a showdown between two of the top teams in the Western Conference on Friday night.

The Blazers record dropped to 5-2 after losing at home 111-106 against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Suns improved to 6-1 on the season after a 116-107 home victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Blazers prevailed in a 113-111 overtime thriller on October 21st in the first of four meetings with Phoenix.

This is actually the first game of a back-to-back between these teams in as they will run it back on Saturday in Phoenix. Tip-off is slated for 10:00 PM EST/7:00 PST from Talking Stick Resort Arena.

Scorching Hot Suns

The Phoenix Suns reeled off their fifth straight victory 116-107 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Cam Johnson paced the Suns with 29 points while going 7 for 11 from three-point land. Miles Bridges chipped in with 19 points while Devin Booker added 18.

Chris Paul fell two rebounds short of a triple double with 15 points & 12 assists. The Suns are a statistical juggernaut, ranking #1 in offensive rating, first in points with over 118 a game and first in shooting percentage at 48.8%.

They are top five in defensive scoring with only 106.7 a game while forcing the 5th most turnovers per game. Devin Booker is 9th in the league in scoring with 27.7 a game while Chris Paul leads the league in assists with 11 per game.

It sounds like DeAndre Ayton is ahead of schedule to return from his ankle injury. He was a full participant in practice on Thursday and he could return in this game against Portland.

Next Man Up For Blazers

The Portland Trailblazers record dipped to 5-2 after a 111-106 loss at home against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Blazers were once again without their superstar Damian Lillard, who remains out with a calf strain. Anfernee Simons led the team in scoring with 31 points as he did in the first game without Lillard scoring 30 points.

However Simons is questionable for this contest with left foot inflammation. Jusuf Nurkic and Jerami Grant both added 23 points while Nurkic led the game in rebounds with 13. The Blazers rank middle of the pack in scoring with 114 points a game and 10th in scoring defense with just over 110 points a game.

The Blazers did hand the Suns their lone loss of the season but it took all of 41 points from Lillard to overcome 59 combined points from Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton.

As we mentioned Lillard remains out and Simons is questionable. On top of that, Josh Hart (concussion) and Gary Payton (conditioning) are also both questionable.

The Phoenix Suns are heavy home favorites with a spread of 11 and a total of 219. The Trailblazers are obviously at a tremendous disadvantage here with Lillard & company dealing with nagging injuries.

We also don’t have a definite answer on Aytons status for tonight. Unfortunately player props still haven’t been released, due to the uncertainty.

If Simons is out you may want to look at Grants points over and if Ayton is out consider Nurkic over for rebounds. One thing is for sure, the Suns are going to out for revenge and they are the far more talented team.

Let’s take a shot on them coming out hot and smothering the wounded Blazers. The Suns starters will be in for the majority of the 1st quarter up against what could be the Blazers second unit.
