New Orleans Pelicans vs Golden State Warriors Analysis

The Golden State Warriors travel to the Smoothie King Center to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night. The Pelicans were edged out in overtime 120-117 against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Warriors lost a 130-129 shootout in Orlando last night against the Magic. This is the first of four head-to-head meetings in a season series the Golden State Warriors won 2-1 last night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 PM EST/5:30 PST from New Orleans.

Pelicans Fall Short In OT

The New Orleans Pelicans ended up losing two of three games on their road trip after losing 120-117 in overtime against the Lakers. Zion Williamson led the Pels in scoring with 27 points on 11 of 20 from the field. CJ McCollum added 22 points while Jonas Valanciunas led the team in rebounds with 10 boards.

Williamson leads the Pelicans in scoring and rebounding with 22.8 and 7.4 rebounds. The Pelicans offense ranks 2nd in points scored with over 118 a game behind only the Golden State Warriors.

They are middle of the pack in scoring defense at 112.6 points allowed per game. Thr status of Herb Jones and Brandon Ingram have been upgraded to probable and Kira Lewis Jr looks to be put for this game.

Warriors Continue To Stumble

The NBA champions the Golden State Warriors have struggled out of the gate with a 3-6 start after losing to a 1-7 Orlando Magic team last night. Steph Curry led all scorers with 39 points while going 8 for 15 from beyond the arc.

Klay Thompson added 27 points of his own while going 7 for 15 from long distance. The Warriors defense has been horrendous as they allow a league most 122.2 points a game.

However, their offense is elite with 118.8 points scored per game, they rank 2nd in three-pointers made per game. The early injury report has come out and Golden State has elected to bench the majority of the starters on the second game of a back-to-back.

The list includes Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins. The Warriors were already going to be without Donte DiVincenzo and Andre Iguodalas status is uncertain.

New Orleans Pelicans vs Golden State Warriors Prediction

The New Orleans Pelicans are 4.5 point road favorites with a total of 233.5. With the Warriors resting the all of their starters, this makes for an interesting handicap. As we mentioned the Warriors allow a league high 122 points a game and that’s with their starters playing.

The Pelicans also score 118 points a game and that’s second best. The New Orleans team total moved up from 118.5 to 119.5 after the Warriors released their injury report. The Warriors have allowed 120+ in 6 of 9 games with 116, 110, and 109 in the other three contests.

Two of those games were against an elite defense in the Miami Heat and the other was opening night against the Los Angeles Lakers. Again, that’s with their starters. The Pels have scored 120+ in only 3 of 7 games.

However they landed on 117, 113, 112, and 111 in the other four games, coming within baskets of the total. I think the Pels still come out motivated against a watered-down Warriors team. Let’s go over on their team total.
