Detroit Red Wings vs Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Analysis

Two teams in some excellent form clash on Monday as the Detroit Red Wings host the Toronto Maple Leafs in Little Caesars Arena in Detroit later tonight.

The Red Wings are coming off four straight wins, scoring an impressive 5.0 goals per game across that run as well, while the Maple Leafs have won three straight games themselves, including a 4-1 blowout road victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday also.

The ‘Original Six’ rivals faced off against each other four times last season with Toronto winning all four meetings between the two sides and the series averaging a pretty colossal 10.0 goals per game across that run as well.

Maple Leafs Look Strong On The Road This Season

Bar the runaway Boston Bruins this season, no one in the Atlantic Division has a better overall road record than the Toronto Maple Leafs have this year, and their recent three-game road trip is a testament to that.

The Leafs have gone into some of the best teams in the league’s home venues over their last few starts and have looked excellent, dispatching the New Jersey Jets, Minnesota Wild, and Pittsburgh Penguins all in quick succession and registering the league’s 4th best goals against ranking on defense this year also, giving up just 2.57 gapg to opponents on average.

Detroit Needed To Dig Deep Against Arizona

After cruising to a 3-1 lead midway through the second quarter in Friday’s matchup against the Arizona Coyotes, it very much looked like a fourth consecutive multi-goal win for the Detroit Red Wings in that one.

However, they were forced to dig deep in that game as Arizona came back with two goals to force the game into OT, the last of which came with just seconds left on the clock, which the Red Wings eventually went on to win via shootout.

That chemistry within the team has been a major factor in their recent success, and with guys like Filip Hronek continuing to get goals for them also, Detroit’s confidence level seems to be at a season-high right now.

Detroit Red Wings vs Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction

We’re taking the Toronto Maple Leafs to get the road win on Monday against the Detroit Red Wings.

Detroit have been playing magnificently of late, but their schedule of opposition hasn’t been all that strong, with their recent games against Arizona, Nashville, Columbus, San Jose, and Anaheim, all coming against teams who rank in the bottom half of the league in terms of overall power rankings this season.

Compare that against Toronto’s recent schedule which has seen them face the Devils twice, the Islanders, the Wild, and the Penguins, and it’s clear which team is the more battle-tested of the two heading into Monday’s matchup.

Schedules aside, Toronto ranks 7th in the league this year on overall offensive xG while Detroit ranks 30th, and that’s just another reason we expect the Maple Leafs to get the win tonight on the road in Detroit.
