Naoya Inoue vs Paul Butler Analysis

Naoya Inoue looks to finally become the undisputed king of the bantamweight division against Englishman Paul Butler in a fight for all the marbles down at the 118-pound division.

With every belt sewn up bar Butler’s WBO strap, the Japanese fighter will be looking to add that final piece to his collection before moving up in weight early next year.

Butler is on a solid run of eight-straight wins himself since his loss to Manny Rodriguez back in 2018, but faces a fighter in Inoue who has seen just one man go the distance against him since May 2016.

The Monster Tagline is Well-Earned

Naoya Inoue has been an absolute wrecking ball through the lower weight classes over the last few years, winning titles down at super-flyweight before his current destructive run at bantamweight. It’s been far from a padded record, too.

Hall of famer Nonito Donaire was absolutely obliterated inside two rounds in their rematch earlier this year, and former world champions Juan Carlos Payano and Manny Rodriguez did little better against the freakish power of the Japanese “monster” either.

Butler Not Overawed By Occasion

Paul Butler is certainly in good spirits ahead of Tuesday’s fight, citing flaws in Inoue’s game that he can exploit which he saw in his fight against Nonito Donaire in Inoue’s first win against him.

That confidence will also be buoyed by the fact Butler has been stopped just once over the course of his career so far, that coming against the hard-hitting Zolani Tete almost eight years ago. So he’ll be looking to weather the early storm here and cause the massive upset in Japan on Tuesday.

Naoya Inoue vs Paul Butler Prediction

Naoya Inoue isn’t just a power puncher, he’s easily one of the most complete boxers in the entire sport, marrying up withering shots to the body with some of the best technique found in the entire game. This looks like an extremely tall task for Butler to pull off the upset here on Tuesday against “The Monster.”

Like his compatriot Jamie McDonnell back in 2018, Butler will even be lucky if he survives the first three minutes of this fight against Inoue as even above Tete, he’s simply never been in there with a fighter who hits as hard as Inoue does.

Those punishing shots, especially downstairs, should be enough to get Butler out of there super early, and we don’t envision this fight going past the first two rounds here on Tuesday. We’re taking the Naoya Inoue inside two rounds (EV) to cash in this one.

Take Naoya Inoue to win in rounds one or two at even money on Tuesday in his undisputed clash at bantamweight against Paul Butler over in Tokyo, Japan. For more free boxing picks, visit WagerTalk’s Free Picks page.
