San Antonio Spurs vs Denver Nuggets Predictions

• San Antonio Spurs -2.5 vs Denver Nuggets
• Total: 215.5 Points
• The last five meetings between these two teams in San Antonio have gone over the total.
• The over is 9-2 in the Nuggets’ last 11 games.

The Nuggets will be on a back to back as they continue a crazy road trip. This will be their 8th road game out of nine, and after this one they still have one more to go. San Antonio will have a days rest so advantage to them in that department. San Antonio is a streaky team. In November they lost six in a row and followed that up with a four game win streak and they’ve now lost two in a row. Early line is close to a pick em and the total is 212.5…so lets find a wager!!!

Pace of play features two teams in the bottom half, and Denver is tied for 26th so we probably won’t see a quick up and down the court type of game, but the big advantage in this game for a team is Denver with Jokic. The Nuggets will always have an advantage with him, but San Antonio is sixth worst guarding Centers, and since Jokic runs their offense it could be tough night guarding Joker. However, Denver is coming off a close game against New Orleans where the starters had to play a lot of minutes, and Denver is one of the least deep teams in the league.

I think that’s going to be a real problem for Denver in this game. San Antonio’s last game they had 11 players in double digit minutes, so coming into this game I’m looking for Denver to slow the pace and limit the amount of shots, but with the wave of players San Antonio can throw at them I don’t see the Spurs cooperating. There are no significant trends with ATS or Totals with these teams right now, so I’m going to fade the team who’s energy has to be at a lower level right after the road schedule and tough games they’ve been playing including the OT game last night. I’ll take the home team to wear them down and pull away late.

Denver is coming off a 120-114 OT win at New Orleans last night behind C Nikola Jokic’ terrific triple-double, with 39 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. (Perhaps the real story was the fact the Pelicans gifted the Nuggets 22 turnovers sealing their own demise despite outshooting, and outrebounding Denver, which yielded 52% shooting to the Pels.) San Antonio is rested for this first of a 2-game set with Denver to be played tonight with another meeting at the AT&T Center on Friday. The Nuggets have won 8 of the last 10 against Gregg Popovich’s team, although the Spurs have covered 3 of the last 4 tilts, including this season’s first meeting back on Oct. 22. The Spurs were catching 7½ points at Ball Arena that night, but the line likely won’t be a factor in this one. The streaky Spurs are just 4-8 SU in their last 12 but have covered 5 of last 6 games overall, and Denver is just 1-3 in 2nd night of back-to-back games this season. Last 5 series games in San Antonio went over the totals and Play San Antonio and the Nuggets are over 9-2 in their last 11 games this season. Play San Antonio.
