Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Betting Analysis
Don’t bet Spurs. Don’t bet Spurs. Don’t bet Spurs. I feel like Bart Simpson writing my punishment on the chalkboard after class, yet I continue to do it and get burned. They looked terrible in their home loss to Aston Villa over the weekend: Very lethargic and uninterested.
There was about a ten-minute spell right before halftime that they could have scored a goal, but aside from that, it was a pathetic showing and well deserved of a loss. That came on the heels of a 2-2 draw vs Brentford, although I guess there was a positive takeaway from that game in the fact that they fell behind 0-2 and battled back
But the most alarming trend for them is that their loss to Aston Villa was their seventh-straight game conceding at least two goals – five before the World Cup break and now two after. Because of that, they have won just two of those seven matches after starting the season very hot with seven wins, two draws and just one loss in their first ten games.
Spurs on the Tailspin
Spurs xG numbers in their first ten games: 1.73 – 1.12
Spurs xG numbers in their last seven games: 1.32 – 1.47
…Clearly a team trending in the wrong direction.
Middle-of-the-Pack Palace
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, is doing what they always seem to do in the EPL: Ho Hum. They are slightly below middle of the table with no great statistics in any particular category, but nothing completely terrible either. They will pull out a couple of impressive results like draws against Newcastle and Liverpool, but also ugly results with losses to Fulham, Nottingham and Everton.
Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Prediction
Palace is a hard team to trust in the favorite position, but tends to perform better when they are expected to lose and are 4-2-1 ATS as underdogs this season. However, it’s interesting to note that they are 0-2 as home ‘dogs, but 4-0-1 as road ‘dogs. So take that for what it’s worth.
Palace has won or drawn each of the last four home matches vs Tottenham and I would lean to them getting a head start in this one too at +0.25.
