Nanjing Tongxi Money Kings vs Beijing Royal Fighters Betting Analysis
Late night on January 17th, the Nanjing Monkey Kings visit the Beijing Royal Fighters. Here is a quick preview with some betting advice on how to approach this game, which features two teams heading in markedly different directions.
Nanjing Monkey Kings Are Flying High
The Monkey Kings have been absolutely putrid the last three seasons. They have been last or second to last each year. This year they are experiencing somewhat of a resurrection. The team is ranked 8th (out of 20) and are in playoff position approaching the mid-season break.
With 12 teams qualifying, they actually have a cushion and are in a position they have not been in for a decade. VMI alum Quentin Peterson is much to do with the lofty position for the Monkey Kings. Peterson is averaging 28.8 PPG and this team is feeding off of his electricity and confident vibes.
Beijing Royal Fighters… Not So Much
The Royal Fighters are heading in the opposite direction. When NBA legend Stephon Marbury took over the coaching duties a few years back, the team was a young, rising squad.
Two seasons back they were playoff contenders but have been on a steady decline since then.
The Royal Fighters rank 15th (of 20) and are 10-14 with 2162 PF and 2321 PA. Scoring 93 a game while allowing 108 is not the defensive strength Marbury brought to the team. This team has no playmakers and plays lazy defense.
Nanjing Tongxi Money Kings vs Beijing Royal Fighters Prediction: The Matchup History
The home game for Beijing on October 25th 2022 was a disaster for them. They got drubbed 107-87 after taking a 26-18 lead in the first quarter. Peterson had 22 points and the Monkey Kings clamped down on defense after the rough start.
When Beijing traveled to Nanjing on December 22nd, 2022, the result was not much better. Nanjing came away with a 130-109 win behind great offensive play to offset the defensive lapse, while Peterson went wild for 43 points.

Expect this to end like it did back in December. The royal Fighters are the third-worst home team in the league and are playing even worse than back in 2022. The Monkey Kings are not a great road team, but at least they have a plus points ratio and they have a playmaker on offense, which the Fighters absolutely do not have.
I run a rough numbers projection that says Nanjing wins 119-102.
I highly doubt it will be that close. I expect the line to come out Nanjing -18 or so. Bettors may catch a break though, as books are still overlooking the Monkey Kings and short the lines a lot.
The Three Betting Picks:
If you see -15 or less for Nanjing, you should pounce on it!
As for totals, the book may have a low number here because neither team is known for scoring. If the book puts out a lower 190’s I will be all over the over.
I will also look to bet a Nanjing team total over if the number is 100 or less.
