Boston Celtics vs Brooklyn Nets Predictions and Player Props February 1
Boston Celtics vs Brooklyn Nets Pelicans Betting Preview
WagerTalk handicapper and renowned Daily Fantasy expert Ben Burns provides his predictions and a player prop from tonight’s showdown between the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics. The game will be featured on ESPN.
You may recall that these teams faced each other in the first round of last year’s playoffs. Boston swept. However, the Nets knocked the Celtics out in five games the previous year.
The Celtics are 2-0 in the season series. They beat the Nets by 11 points in December and then did so again in January. Both those games were played in Brooklyn.
With former Celtic Kyrie Irving running the floor, you know that the revenge-minded Nets would love to get some payback. See below for a Kyrie Irving player prop.

Boston Celtics vs Brooklyn Nets Betting Analysis
The Brooklyn Nets travel to TD Garden to take on the Celtics. Neither team is at full strength. The Nets are slowly getting healthy but remain without superstar Kevin Durant. Off back-to-back wins, they’re now 4-2 their last six. More importantly, they were 5-1 against the spread in those games.
The Celtics, who have been playing without Marcus Smart and Danilo Gallinari, haven’t fared nearly as well at the betting window recently. In fact, they’re 0-6 ATS their last six games. They did win three of those but all three victories were by four points or less.
The Nets have seen three of their past four games finish above the total. Each of their past five games has finished with a minimum of 225 points.
Off a road trip where points were at a premium, the Celtics have returned home to play back-to-back higher scoring games. However, it should be mentioned that both of this season’s earlier meetings were quite low-scoring.
Dynamic Duo Making History
Boston’s combination of Tatum and Brown is one of the top tandems in the NBA. When they’re both on their game, the Celtics are tough to stop.
In this season’s first meeting, Tatum had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Brown didn’t play. In the second game Brown had 34 points and 10 rebounds.
On the season, Tatum averages 31.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists. They used to refer to Tatum as Batman with Brown representing Robin. These days, however, some think of Brown as Superman. He’s averaging 27 points on the season, 7.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
In fact, Tatum and Brown have a chance to become only the fifth teammates to ever both average more than 27 points per game. (Fourth, in fact, as Shaq and Kobe accomplished the feat twice.)
Jerry West and Elgin Baylor did it back in 1965. Shaq and Kobe both had 27-plus points in 2001 and again in 2003. Most recently, Harden and Westbrook averaged more than 27.
Who Deserves The Credit?
The Nets have dealt with a lot. Kyrie Irving always seemed to be in the news. Kevin Durant has been hurt. Steve Nash got fired. It appeared that this season could easily become a write-off.
The Nets didn’t quit though. Much of the credit goes to new (interim) coach Jacque Vaughn. He pulled the team together and got the players to buy into playing defense. They’ve been much stronger on that side of the ball since the coaching change.
Like him or not, Kyrie Irving also deserves much of the credit for Brooklyn’s improved play. Since Durant went down to injury, he’s really elevated his game. When his team really needed him, he scored 30 or more points in six straight games. Perhaps no player is as deadly in the fourth quarter.
Boston Celtics vs Brooklyn Nets Player Prop Prediction
There’s no question that Tatum, Irving and Brown represent “The Big Three” in this game. However, while Tatum and Brown can rely on each other, Irving needs to shoulder a bigger load.
Irving’s 30-point streak came to an end last game but he still led the Nets in scoring for the 10th straight time. Over his past five games, he’s averaging 33.2 points and eight assists. Facing his former team, he should have another big game.
Player Prop Prediction: Kyrie Irving Points + Assists Over 36.5 -115 (Draft Kings)
