Tampa Bay Lightning vs Colorado Avalanche Betting Analysis
A rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup Finals is on deck for Thursday as the defending champions the Colorado Avalanche head to the Amalie Arena in Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Colorado comes off a tough 2-1 OT loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday but were on a red-hot run prior to that, winning seven of their previous eight games overall.
Tampa Bay meanwhile have come out of the break not looking that sharp defensively, giving up seven goals against the Florida Panthers in a Monday night blowout.
They again fell short in an OT loss against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday where they gave up four additional goals.
This will be the teams’ first meeting since last season’s 4-2 Stanley Cup series victory by the Colorado Avalanche with the Avalanche lifting the cup in Florida in Game 6.
That’s something Colorado has been able to do fairly consistently over the last few seasons also, winning four of their last five encounters against Tampa Bay in this venue.
Colorado Looks Toward A Standout Defense
Only the New York Islanders, Dallas Stars, and Boston Bruins have a lower overall opponent shot connect percentage this season than the Colorado Avalanche have.
Both Alexandar Georgiev and Pavel Francouz have been excellent in nets this year for the Avalanche, both ranking inside the top 20 in the league this season on GSAA average.
Colorado also ranks 2nd in the league in high-danger opponent chances allowed this season also, right behind the Carolina Hurricanes, so it’s been no easy out for opponents to score on this team this season.
Tampa Bay Still An Offensive Threat
One team who certainly can score on this Colorado Avalanche team however is the Tampa Bay Lightning.
While the Lightning’s defense may not have looked all that sharp over recent games, no question marks remain on their offense which has generated an average of 3.56 goals per game this year, the league’s 4th highest return overall.
The data backs up that dominance as well, with the Lightning ranking 5th on connect percentage this year at 11.12%, 5th on offensive xG, and 4th on high-danger creation rate also.
Tampa Bay Lightning vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction
This is a very tough game to call here on Thursday, but we’re just about leaning towards the home side in this one at -130.
Tampa Bay threw away a dominant 3-1 lead against San Jose late on Tuesday night in a tough back-to-back spot for them after giving up 7 goals on a massive 49 shots allowed in their game the previous night against the Florida Panthers.
This mini break should allow them to reset here at home and they’ll no doubt be eager to gain some slight revenge over their Stanley Cup vanquishers from last year also, so take the Tampa Bay Lightning to get the win at home on Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche in Florida.
