Philadelphia Eagles vs Kansas City Chiefs Betting Analysis

The Kansas City Chiefs will be in a familiar position as they make their third Super Bowl appearance in the last four seasons when they face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday.

The 16-3 Chiefs beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in the AFC Championship Game after winning their 7th consecutive AFC West title.

Former Eagles head coach Andy Reid hasn’t had a losing record in 10 seasons with Kansas City while building a 128-52 record. Andy Reid was the all-time winningest head coach in Eagles history during his tenure from 1999-2012.

The Eagles also improved to 16-3 on the season after blowing out the San Francisco 49ers 31-7 in the NFC Championship last Sunday. Second year head coach Nick Sirianni is in the midst of his 2nd post-season while leading the Eagles to a combined record of 25-12.

Philadelphia has made five post-season appearances in the last six years and won Super Bowl LII in February 2018.

Kansas City won 42-30 in Philadelphia during Week 4 of the 2021-22 campaign behind 5 Patrick Mahomes touchdown passes. Reid isn’t even the biggest storyline in Super Bowl LVII considering the brotherly love angle.

Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce and Eagles starting center Jason Kelce will become the first pair of brothers to play each other in the Super Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM EST/3:30 PST from State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Truth Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles offense finished the season 3rd in both total points and total yards. Jalen Hurts threw for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns with just six interceptions during the regular season.

The 24 year-old quarterback has proven to be a crucial part of the Eagles success as the team went 16-1 with him under center, but lost both games he missed with a shoulder injury.

Hurts also did plenty of damage with his legs as he ran for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns. Miles Sanders finished the season 5th in rushing with 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns.

AJ Brown was the teams leading receiver in terms of yardage and touchdowns with 88 receptions for 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The Eagles defense ranked 8th in points allowed with 20.2 per game and 2nd in yards allowed with 301.5 per game. They did an amazing job defending the pass at #1 with only 179.8 passing yards allowed per game.

Philadelphia doesn’t have any major injury concerns outside of everyone being banged up at this point in the season. The Eagles finished the season with a 10-9 record both in ATS and O/U.

Chief Concerns

The Kansas City Chiefs were the #1 offensive attack in total points and total yards during the regular season.

Patrick Mahomes fell just short of the all-time single season passing yards record with 5,250 yards 41 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also ran for 358 yards and four touchdowns.

Isiah Pacheco paced the team in rushing with 830 yards and five touchdowns. Tight end Travis Kelce had another outstanding season with 110 receptions for 1,338 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Chiefs defense ranked 16th in points allowed with 21.7 per game and 11th in yards allowed with 328.2 yards per game. They did do a solid job against the run at 8th with only 107.2 rushing yards allowed per game.

Mahomes doesn’t currently have an injury designation as he played through the AFC Championship Game against Cincinnati, after suffering a high ankle sprain against Jacksonville in the Divisional Round.

Wide receiver Mecole Hardman has been placed on injured reserve with a hip injury while wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster & Kadarius Toney and linebacker Willie Gay are all questionable but trending towards playing in the big game. The Chiefs have a 7-11-1 ATS record and 8-11 Over/Under record.

Philadelphia Eagles vs Kansas City Chiefs Player Prop Prediction

I am #1 on 5% NFL plays with a 20-8 record and have a 5% Super Bowl play available on my page on WagerTalk. For this article I’m going to focus on a free player prop.

This game is a virtual pick’em with the Philadelphia Eagles favored by only 1.5 points and total set at 51. The Big Game is a showdown between two offensive juggernauts that rank 1st & 3rd in both scoring and yardage.

This is the Super Bowl where we could get action on a cockroach race in the parking lot but I’m going with the chalk here.

The Chiefs wide receiving core is banged up beyond belief with Mecole Hardman on the shelf and JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling & Kadarius Toney all suffering various degrees of injury.

Odds makers are expecting a high scoring game and if the Chiefs are going to keep up, Kelce will be heavily involved. Kelce has scored 69 career touchdowns in only 143 career games including one in his two Super Bowl games.

Mahomes loves to look Kelce’s way and Andy Reid always draws up some unique plays to get Kelce looks in the red area.

At -125, Kelce seems like a bargain and even if Mahomes were to miss time, Chad Henne would be forced feeding Kelce. I could also see looking towards the other sides tight end with Dallas Goedert sitting at +175.

Player Prop Prediction: Travis Kelce Anytime Touchdown -125 FanDuel
