Dortmund vs Chelsea Betting Analysis

English heavyweights Chelsea will look towards putting together a major European run on Wednesday as they travel over to Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund after a torrid season domestically.

The Blues sit 10th in the Premier League this season and have failed to win any of their previous seven road games in the league also, and face another tough ask against Borussia Dortmund over in Germany this week as well.

Dortmund for their part took a little while to get going this season over in the German Bundesliga, but have since reeled off five straight victories over their last five games in the league and will be looking to keep that momentum going here against an out-of-form Chelsea side.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in European competition.

Lack Of Cohesiveness Despite Massive Spending At Chelsea

Despite Chelsea owner Todd Boehly spending almost $700 million since he took over on May 31st of last year, by far the most money out of any club in Europe, there’s been very little to show for that investment up to this point.

With the likes of Joao Felix, Enzo Fernandez, and Mykhailo Mudryk, Chelsea certainly have the talent in that roster, but that talent will likely take time to develop into a cohesive unit, a luxury Chelsea won’t have with just two legs to separate themselves from Borussia Dortmund in this tie.

Rumors Continue To Swirl Around Pioli

Borussia Dortmund’s main issue this season has been consistency, with their current run of six straight wins across all competitions their longest winning stretch of the season so far.

Coming up against the bigger teams, Dortmund have certainly shown their pedigree in Europe, losing just one game across their entire Champions League group stage campaign.

That loss came against competition favorites Manchester City in Manchester, a game in which they were winning in up to the 80th minute as well, so they’ll no doubt provide another serious test for Chelsea in this one also.

Dortmund vs Chelsea Prediction

Chelsea certainly have the individual talent in their squad, but simply haven’t been given enough time in which to turn that talent into a cohesive functioning unit, and that’s something Borussia Dortmund should be able to exploit at home here on Wednesday.

Dortmund have been in some red-hot form coming out of the World Cup break, ranking as the Bundesliga’s best team overall since the start of the calendar year.

We’re expecting that form to continue into this one so take Borussia Dortmund at home here on Wednesday against Chelsea over in the Champions League.

Prediction: Dortmund PK (-130)
