Washington Capitals vs Florida Panthers Betting Analysis

The Florida Panthers came out of their recent All-Star Break in some red-hot form, blowing out the Tampa Bay Lightning and San Jose Sharks in quick succession by a combined 11-2 scoreline.

They look to have finally turned a corner in the league, but just one win across their last three starts in all has shown that possibly not all of Florida’s issues this season have been fixed.

The Panthers face a Washington Capitals team here on Thursday that are coming off back-to-back losses themselves over recent starts and who have won just one of their last five home games heading into this matchup as well as they look to keep pace in the Metropolitan Division.

This will be the second of three meetings between the two teams this season after Florida took game one 5-2 down in Sunrise back in mid-November.

Florida Still In The Hunt

After a tough opening half of the season for last year’s Presidents’ Trophy winners, Matthew Tkachuk and co will be hoping for a much brighter second half of the season moving forward.

Making up a two-point gap on the Washington Capitals over in the East will be the first priority on that hit list as the Panthers look to improve on a sub-par 12-16-3 road record this year.

Huge Drop Off In Form For Washington

The Washington Capitals went a red-hot 15-3-3 between mid-November to the start of January, but have really dropped off the pace since then, registering just six wins total over the past six weeks.

A large part of those recent issues for the Capitals has stemmed from an offense that has averaged just 2.13 goals per game across their last eight starts.

Washington Capitals vs Florida Panthers Expert Prediction

This should be an exciting matchup on Thursday night between two teams currently jockeying for position in the East.

However, both teams have shown to be defensively vulnerable this season, with the Washington Capitals and Florida Panthers ranking 19th and 27th respectively in defensive xGA this year.

On top of that, Florida also ranks 28th on high-danger chances allowed this season, but more than makes up for it with an offense that ranks #1 in total shots on goal this year and #1 in offensive xG also.
