Maryland vs West Virginia Prediction : Maryland’s Betting Analysis

Maryland started the year 8-0 with an impressive 18-point win over Miami and a home win over Illinois. But since then, few teams have shown more Jekyll and Hyde characteristics than the Terrapins.

Five of Maryland’s nine Big Ten losses came against teams that didn’t make the NCAA Tournament. Through out the course of the season, Maryland routinely performed better against the top-half of the conference than the bottom half.

Since December, the Terps have lost 11 of their last 13 road or neutral site games. Here’s the list of teams they’ve beaten since then: Minnesota.

Senior guard Jahmir Young was a welcomed addition to College Park after spending the last three seasons at Charlotte. Young’s experience and leadership will be vital against West Virginia’s press defense.

The Mountaineers weren’t exactly a model of consistency, either. Bob Huggins’ team started 0-5 in Big XII play before turning things around down the stretch to eek out an at-large berth.

Seven of the Mountaineers’ 11 losses came by seven points or less, so the margin between a 19-14 campaign and a 22-11 campaign wasn’t very broad.

We’re drawn toward the under here as neither team is likely to light up the scoreboard at Legacy Arena in Birmingham. Maryland has slowed the pace considerably over the course of the season.

Terrpins’ games averaged over 64 possessions per game, but they played notably slower at the end of the season. None of Maryland’s last six games reached that 64-possession mark.
