France vs Netherlands Betting Analysis
The Netherlands and France kick-off their Euro 2024 qualification campaign in Saint-Denis on Friday with both teams hotly favored to advance from a group featuring Ireland, Greece, and Gibraltar also.
The Netherlands have since changed head coaches following their quarter-final exit at the hands of eventual World Cup winners Argentina back in December.
Former manager Ronald Koeman is back at the helm of the national team after leaving the post in August 2020 to take over at Barcelona.
There have been no such changes in the French dugout however as head coach Didier Deschamps is fast approaching his eleventh year in charge of the national team, and has made superstar forward Kylian Mbappe the new captain of the French team ahead of the current campaign to book a place in Euro 2024.
The Netherlands won the last meeting between the two teams back in November 2018 with a 2-0 victory in the Nations League.
However, France have won the last three head-to-heads in France between the two teams by a convincing 8-1 scoring margin also.
Netherlands Don’t Hold Good Memories Against France
Failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup was a major disappointment for the Dutch, which also incidentally coincided with the last time the Netherlands was drawn in the same group as France ahead of a major tournament.
The Netherlands lost both games in that qualification campaign to France, failing to even score a single goal across either match as well.
So they’ll be hoping that Ronald Koeman can continue the success he enjoyed during his last stint in charge of the national team, owning an 80% unbeaten percentage and a +25 goal differential also.
Mbappe Looks To Continue To Make History
Following Hugo Lloris’ retirement from the national squad after the World Cup, the captain’s armband has now been passed to one of the most electric forward’s in world football today, Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe became only the second player in history to net a hat-trick in a World Cup final, but his appointment to the post hasn’t gone down well with every player in the team, with fellow forward and long-standing French player Antoine Griezmann supposedly upset at being snubbed for the role in favor of the younger man.
France vs Netherlands Expert Prediction
Difficult game to call on Friday as Ronald Koeman’s Dutch side have traditionally been so difficult to beat under his efficient 4-3-3 system.
However, with key Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong ruled out for Friday’s game, plus the recent history between the two sides when playing in France, we have to lean towards the home side in this one.
At home, France have been nigh on unstoppable in meaningful matchups, not having lost a game in their home country outside of Nations League or friendly competition since 2013 against then World Champions Spain.
Lean to France on Friday in what’s expected to be a very competitive game in Saint-Denis against the Netherlands over in Group B.
