Manchester City vs Bayern Betting Analysis
Arguably the pick of the quarter-final first-leg matchups here on Tuesday as German heavyweights Bayern Munich travel over to England to take on tournament favorites Manchester City in a huge game over at the Etihad this week.
Manchester City are in some imperious form right now, winning nine straight games at home across all competitions and blowing out their opposition across that run by a colossal 34-4 goal margin also.
Bayern Munich meanwhile have seen a change in management, with former boss Julian Nagelsmann being replaced by former PSG and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel in an interesting move for the German club ahead of this crucial tie.
Tuchel however has a phenomenal record in the Champions League across recent years, guiding Chelsea to the cup two seasons ago and very nearly doing the same with PSG the year before.
These two teams haven’t met in a meaningful game in European competition since 2014 when Manchester City beat Bayern 3-2 in this venue. However, Bayern won both of the previous two meetings here prior to that matchup.
Bayern Look To Shake Off Domestic Form
A large part of the reason Nagelsmann was let go at Bayern was due to their relatively poor domestic form this season, with the title still hanging in the balance with only seven games remaining on the year.
Bayern have amassed just a 50% win rate away from home in the league since September, and got dumped out of the DFB Pokal against Freiburg last week as well.
So will no doubt they’ll be hoping they can leave their patchy domestic form behind here as they face a mammoth task to try and unseat a red-hot Manchester City team at the Etihad on Tuesday night.
City Looking To Continue German Dominance
While winning the Champions League represents Pep Guardiola’s last major hurdle in terms of managing Manchester City, they’ve certainly been a dominant side nonetheless in this competition.
One more win or draw here would see them break the record for the longest undefeated English UCL side at home in the tournament’s history.
A large part of that success for Manchester City has come against teams in the Bundesliga, with City eliminating Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Borussia Monchengladbach across recent years, but face their stiffest test yet in continuing that run against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
Manchester City vs Bayern Expert Prediction
Manchester City appear to be on fire right now and it’s extremely difficult to look past them getting another win at home here on Tuesday given Bayern Munich’s defensive issues this season.
Bayern Munich have kept just two clean sheets across all competitions since February and Thomas Tuchel has still yet to decide what defensive formation he wants to adopt at Bayern, with a three-man backline still a serious option given how effective it was under him at Chelsea.
Bayern should never be underestimated in European competition, especially with a manager like Tuchel in charge, but City should have the firepower and confidence to get over the line in leg 1 here given the form they’ve been in of late.
Take Manchester City to win leg 1 at home on Tuesday against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
