Nantes vs Angers | Saturday June 3 | 3:00pm ET
Nantes -335 | Angers +855 | Draw +480
Huge matchup down in the Stade de la Beaujoire this weekend as 17th placed Nantes have just one game left to try and turn their fortunes around and escape the relegation zone with a win against Angers on Saturday.
Angers for their part have already been relegated, currently sitting bottom of the French Ligue 1 table overall, but have actually gone through a mini purple patch of late, banking four points from their last two games as they play completely pressure free to close out the remainder of the season.
A win for Nantes isn’t necessarily a done deal in this one either considering the Canaries have a relatively poor W1, D3, L1 record at home against Angers in league action over their last five league matchups here.
The two teams drew twice this season in regulation already, once in February’s Coupe de France meeting and also in the reverse league fixture in Angers back in August as well.
There’s no question Nantes have struggled massively across 2023 as a whole, currently mired in a prolonged fourteen game winless run in the league, and expecting them to simply turn it on here on demand and cover this game by multiple goals because it’s a must-win situation for them looks a little ambitious.
Angers have done their best work of the season of late, with the players having their last chance to showcase their talents in the top flight before their inevitable drop down to Ligue 2 in August.
Given their recent run, their solid head-to-head record against Nantes in this venue, and the huge handicap line on offer, we’re happy to take a piece of Angers +1.5 in this one for Saturday.
Prediction: Angers +1.5 (+100)
Auxerre vs Lens | Saturday June 3 | 3:00pm ET
Auxerre +180 | Lens +145 | Draw +260
There’s barely been a hotter team in European football across the last few months than Lens have, generating ten wins from their last eleven league games overall, including six straight, and they’ll take that recent red-hot record into the Stade de l’Abbe-Deschamps this weekend against 16th placed Auxerre.
Auxerre haven’t enjoyed quite the same level of success as their visitors heading into this one, sitting winless across their last six league starts, but they’ll need to try and turn that around here as only two points currently separate them from the aforementioned Nantes in the table in the race to avoid relegation.
With an inferior goal difference to Nantes, Auxerre will either need a positive result in this game, or hope Angers can get a result against Nantes in their matchup, something they can’t rely on ahead of this one seeing as all of the games kick-off simultaneously on Saturday.
Lens have looked locked in second place for a few weeks now, and that realization has barely slowed them down, beating Toulouse, Marseille, Reims, Lorient, and AC Ajaccio all in quick succession over the month of May, and getting them at a straight pick ‘em line here on Saturday looks like another solid play also.
Auxerre have scored the second fewest goals at home this season, as well as owning the league’s third lowest offensive xG rating.
That goes up against the league’s best overall defense this weekend in ‘The Blood and Gold’ who have allowed just 28 goals all season (0.76 GPG), so we’re expecting another positive result for the road team this weekend in Burgundy also.
Prediction: Lens PK (-125)
Monaco vs Toulouse | Saturday June 3 | 3:00pm ET
Monaco -230 | Toulouse +515 | Draw +430
It’s a three way battle to lock in Europa League football next season with just one point currently separating Lille, Rennes, and Monaco in the league table ahead of Saturday’s final matchday in French Ligue 1.
Monaco are the ones who find themselves on the outside looking in right now so will need a positive result in this game and hope either Lille or Rennes slip up in their respective matchups this weekend as well.
However, that will be easier said than done as Monaco’s home form this season continues to haunt them, winning just nine times at home all season, along with just two of their last six games inside the Stade Louis II as well.
Toulouse meanwhile find themselves safely in midtable heading into the final matchday of the season, but have proven hard to beat despite this, losing just one over their last seven matchups overall, and ended up covering this line against one of Europe’s hottest teams in Lens in that one sole loss earlier this month as well.
Defensively, Monaco just haven’t been good enough at the back this season, especially at home, where they’ve given up 13.2 shots per game to opponents on average, tied for the 4th worst mark in the league overall, and have covered this line in just one of their last three head-to-head meetings against Toulouse in this venue as well.
We’re happy to take a piece of the road team in this one catching a big head start on Saturday down in the principality.
Prediction: Toulouse +1.25 (-105)
