Betting Preview for MLS June 10

WagerTalk MLS handicapper Nick Borrman presents his June 10 MLS predictions and picks around key matches including CF Montreal vs Minnesota United and San Jose Earthquakes vs Philadelphia Union. CF Montreal vs Minnesota United | June 10 | 7:30pm ET

Montreal +110 | Draw +235 | Minnesota +215
Asian Handicap: Montreal -0.25 | Total: 2.5

CF Montreal vs Minnesota United prediction data

Minnesota travels to Montreal as two inept offenses do battle on Saturday night. Only three teams have scored fewer than the 15 goals that Minnesota and Montreal have each scored. Don’t expect many fireworks in this match either.

Minnesota has earned more points on the road (12) than any other team in the West as they have earned four wins. However, they won their first three road matches of the year and since have won just once over their last six. Their defense has been excellent on the road though as they rank 4th in xGA per 90 minutes away from home allowing just 1.10.

In their nine away matches thus far, only twice have they allowed more than 1.0 xGA with most of that damage coming in a 3-2 loss at Vancouver in which they allowed the Whitecaps a whopping 2.70 xG.

However, Vancouver has proven to be one of the most formidable offenses in the league, averaging the 3rd most xG per match and 2nd most at home. Take away that match and Minnesota is allowing a paltry 0.90 xGA on the road! Good news for them, Montreal is not Vancouver.

Montreal’s 1.03 xG per match is better than only five teams in the league as they have been held scoreless eight times already through 16 matches.

Oddly though, when Montreal does score, they have been great at playing out the match as five of their six wins this season have come with them keeping a clean sheet and thus, they have a very low 3-13 Both Teams to Score Yes-No record.

Most of those wins have come at home for Montreal where they are 5-0-1 and have allowed just three goals with only one match finishing Over the total.

This appears to be another one of those games where there aren’t many chances to go around for either team and a 1-0 or 2-0 final score likely.

Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals -115

New England Revolution vs Inter Miami | June 10 | 7:30pm ET

New England -200 | Draw +330 | Miami +450
Asian Handicap: New England -1.0 | Total: 2.75

New England Revolution vs Inter Miami prediction data

The Revolution are on a slide as they have gone winless in their last five matches, however, four of those have been on the road. At home, although they did settle for a 3-3 draw with Chicago in their last match, they have been excellent.

New England has not lost at home going 4-3-0 with a +9 goal differential. They average the most xG per match at 2.06 and have the 5th best xG differential at +1.03 per 90 minutes.

Over their last four home matches, they have been particularly strong at creating chances, averaging 2.78 xG per match. On the defensive side, they allowed 2.10 xGA to Cincinnati in a 1-1 draw, but aside from that, have allowed only 0.85 xGA in their other six home matches.

Miami is on a worse run than New England having lost five straight matches, the 2nd time they have done that this season, although the first time they lost six. Over their most recent five matches, they have averaged a mere 0.66 xG per 90 minutes and have scored a total of three goals.

On the road, Miami has been particularly bad with one win in seven matches to go along with six losses. They have been held scoreless in five of those games and have averaged just 0.80 xG.
One final note is that Kamal Miller, Miami’s best defender, will be unavailable for this match after being handed a straight red in the 7th minute of their home loss to DC United last weekend.

Prediction: New England Revolution -1.0 -120

San Jose Earthquakes vs Philadelphia Union | June 10 | 10:30pm ET

San Jose +130 | Draw +245 | Philadelphia +175
Asian Handicap: Philadelphia +0.25 | Total: 2.5

San Jose Earthquakes vs Philadelphia Union prediction data

Sometimes it can be as simple as taking one of the hottest teams in the league getting a head start and not overthinking it. That’s what I suggest for this match although I do expect the number to move by the time kickoff rolls around so grab this while you can.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again. Philadelphia got off to a slow start to the season which seemed directly related to their run in the CONCACAF Champions League as they struggled to perform in both competitions.

However, they have now gone unbeaten in their last nine MLS matches, though they were eliminated by LAFC in the CCL as they tried to avenge their MLS Cup Final loss last season but were unable to do so.
Philly has been particularly good in their last seven games with six wins and one draw as their defense has shined.

The Union kept five clean sheets in those seven matches and allowed a total of just two goals. While San Jose has been very good at home, I will almost always grab a team with as strong of a defense as they have getting a head start.

San Jose is unbeaten at home this year, which is certainly worrisome, but they have benefitted from a rather easy home schedule. They did beat Vancouver in their first home match of the season and beat LAFC 2-1 last month, but that San Jose-LAFC rivalry is a wild one.

Aside from that, San Jose settled for draws vs Toronto and Dallas while also beating weak sides Colorado, Houston and Kansas City, though the latter is finally starting to play much better.

I see the Quakes struggling though to find much space against Philly’s organized defense while at the same time San Jose has stalled offensively as they have failed to score more than one goal in any of their last five matches.

Prediction: Philadelphia Union +0.25 -125
