Steve Sarkisian is an offensive wizard, but now we find out if he can close the deal as the man in charge of the entire program.  It’s their last rodeo in the Big 12, and anything less than a title might not be acceptable.

Texas Longhorns Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH

 Losing the NCAA’s top RB, plus another NFL RB is never easy.  All eyes will be on highly rated true frosh RB Baxter.  Short of that, I’ll just watch QB Ewers, who has the makings of a high draft pick but has had some inconsistency with his accuracy thus far. 

The WR talent and OL talent is borderline exceptional.  The run D improved greatly in ’22.  It ‘should” remain at solid levels, while the 63.5% pass D should start to improve.

Texas Longhorns 2023 Predictions, Texas Schedule:

Alabama survived vs. Texas a year ago in a game the Longhorn’s which they had back.  The rematch is at their place, and a win is not expected.  Baylor hosts Texas on 9/23.  That could be a bit tricky.  I’ll chart Oklahoma’s defense prior to that important game. 

The November schedule is tricky, but not overwhelming.  They host a good K St team (close win history), go to TCU (some recent challenges), stay on the road to face ISU (tight series of late, some referee-aided help for the Longhorn’s) and close hosting TT (18-3 at home, lost in overtime at their place last year).

Texas Longhorns Football Bottom Line:

Texas will be favored 11 times this year, and is the heavy favorite to win the conference.  Amazingly, their last conference title was back in 2009.  They will get some team’s best shot, especially as the driving force to creating conference upheaval, however the Big 12 rebounded nicely with the addition of four decent new members. 

While I’m scared to predict 11-1, considering I don’t fully trust Sark as the lean guy, 11-1 is the likely result, with 10-2 the floor if everyone stays healthy.  Watch RB Baxter and the secondary play closely.

Texas Longhorns Football HANDICAPPING TIP:

I’ll try not to step in the way much when the Texas offense plays average or below average defenses.  For now, I’ll target 10/21 at Houston as a chance to back them.
