RB Prop Prediction 1: Najee Harris Under 49.5 Rushing Yards (-130) – Rushing Yards Prop
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris carried the ball 272 times during the 2022 season while collecting 1.034 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Harris also fell short of recording 50+ rushing yards in 7 of his 17 regular season games during the campaign. He got off to a slow start, failing to clear this number in four of his first six games of the season.
Jaylen Warren seems to be the “flavor of the month” as he makes nearly everyone’s list as a sleeper that could supplant Harris as the #1 back in Pittsburgh.
Rightfully so, as Warren has averaged over a yard more per carry, but it definitely be a time share regardless of how that shakes out. Now enter the dominant San Francisco 49ers defense that ranked 2nd in rushing yards allowed with only 77.7 per game.
The status of a banged-up Joey Bosa remains up in the air, but this defense is still elite without him on the field. The Steelers also have plenty of other weapons including wide receivers Diontae Johnson, Allen Robinson II & George Pickens and tight end Peter Freiermuth.
If the 49ers don’t let Harris break a long run, i don’t see a scenario where he grinds out 50+ yards. Warren will be there to compete for carries and this defense is problem. Take the under on Harris’s rushing yards for Week 1.
RB Prop Prediction 2: JK Dobbins Over 55.5 Rushing Yards (-115) – Rushing Prop Bets
Baltimore Ravens running back JK Dobbins recorded 520 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 92 carries for an average of 5.7 yards per carry while missing nearly two months during the 2022 regular season.
He recorded 56+ rushing yards in 5 of his 9 games including the postseason, but let’s focus on the fact that he fell short in all four of the games prior to injury while clearing the total in all five games post-injury.
In those five contests, Dobbins ran the ball 12+ times in each game while recording 120, 125, 59, 93 and 62 rushing yards.
Gus Edwards is still in the picture, but the Ravens will have plenty of carries to go around as they have ranked top three in rushing yards in each of the last five seasons.
Not only that, new offensive coordinator Todd Monken plans on utilizing Lamar Jackson more as a passer than runner this season.
The Houston Texans ranked dead last against the run in 2022 while allowing a ridiculous average of 170.2 yards per game. New head coach DeMeco Ryans made acquisitions such as drafting stud pass rusher Will Anderson to improve the defense but expecting a huge difference in Week 1 is a reach.
The Ravens have consistently gotten off to strong starts as they have covered the spread in six of their last seven season openers.
They also enter the Week 1 as the biggest favorite on the board as 10-point favorites which should lead to additional carries for the backs late in the game. I wouldn’t suggest any sort of season-long props for Dobbins based on his injury history, but he will be motivated to build on his strong finish this week.
