Denver Broncos vs Washington Commanders Prediction and Picks - Free NFL Expert Pick for 9-17-23

QB Prop Prediction 1: Russell Wilson, Broncos UNDER 227.5 Passing Yards (-115)

Denver Broncos starting quarterback Russell Wilson posted accurate but underwhelming numbers in Week 1, going 27-34 for 177 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Wilson is coming off his worst season as a pro in 2022 where he threw a career-low 16 touchdown passes while being sacked a career-high 55 times as the Broncos finished with the league’s lowest scoring offense at 16.9 points per game.

He was short on weapons in Week 1 without wide receiver Jerry Jeudy who remains questionable with a hamstring injury as both Phillip Dorsett and Lil Jordan Humphrey had to be elevated from the practice squad on Saturday.

Meanwhile the Washington Commanders were in a rock fight of their own as they prevailed 20-16 over the Arizona Cardinals.

The Commanders defense held quarterback Joshua Dobbs to 21-32 for only 132 passing yards with no touchdowns or interceptions last week. Washington ranked 11th with only 204.2 passing yards allowed last season while holding opponents to only 18.9 points per game.

We enter this contest with a spread of only 3.5 and a low total of 39 meaning another hard-fought low scoring game is projected.

While Wilson and company made improvements, they still lost 17-16 to the Vegas Raiders and he fell nearly 50 yards short of this projected total.

I fully expect more of the same in a game against a Washington defense that’s capable of keeping a lid on Wilson in Denver on Sunday.

QB Prop Prediction 2: Mac Jones, Patriots OVER 237.5 Passing Yards (-115)

New England Patriots starting quarterback Mac Jones posted stellar numbers in Week 1, going 35-54 for 316 yards with three touchdowns and one costly interception.

Jones is coming off a debacle of a 2022 season where he lost his starting job at one point and finished with only 2,997 yards, 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

In Week 1, Jones and the Patriots could have easily thrown in the towel as they trailed 16-0 after a 1st quarter that included a 70-yard interception return by Darius Slay.

However, they fought back, and Jones showed an amazing rapport with his weapons including tight end Hunter Henry and wide receiver Kendrick Bourne.

Meanwhile the Miami Dolphins defense or lack thereof were battling for a 36-34 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in what ended up being the highest scoring game of the week.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 228 yards and a touchdown despite the Chargers ground game accounting for a staggering 234 yards.

While the Patriots defense is superior to that of the Chargers, they will still need to score their fair share of points to beat the Dolphins.

Look for Jones to continue to improve and clear this low passing yards total in a game where he will need to score points against the Miami Dolphins.
