Anytime Touchdown Scorer Prediction 1: Jahmyr Gibbs, Lions (+110)
Detroit Lions rookie running back Jamyr Gibbs had an underwhelming debut on paper with only 7 carries for 42 yards and two receptions for 18 yards.
However, he did make the most of his 19 snaps (27% of the offensive snaps) with an average of 6.0 yards per carry. Additionally, according to Pro Football Focus, Gibbs recorded the most missed tackles in Week 1 with 6.
Now, the Alabama product has a chance to go up against a Seattle Seahawks defense that struggled against running backs last season and in their season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
Last season, the Seahawks allowed 8th most touchdowns to opposing running backs on the ground with 14 and 7th most through the air with 4.
Last week, they allowed to 30 points and 426 total yards to Stafford and the Rams, including and an average of 5.5 yards per play.
They also allowed 8.8 yards per passing play which must have the Lions coaching staff licking their chops on various ways they can exploit the Seattle defense with Gibbs.
It’s amazing to think about how talented Gibbs is to force six missed tackles on only nine touches. This has all the makings of a breakout game for Gibbs against a vulnerable Seahawks defense, making a +110 price for a touchdown very intriguing.
Anytime TD Scorer Prediction 2: Tyler Allgeier, Falcons (+175)
Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier took the lion’s share of the workload with 15 carries for 75 yards and two touchdowns with an average of 5.0 yards per carry. He also caught all three of his targets for a total of 19 receiving yards.
This while his counterpart Bijan Robinson ran the ball only 10 times for 56 yards and no touchdowns while catching all six of his targets for 27 yards and a touchdown.
The Falcons were projected to be a run heavy offense and that was spot on as they threw only 18 passes compared to 26 rushing attempts.
The Green Bay Packers defense had the luxury of facing a Chicago Bears team with much less talent at running back than that of the Falcons, but Roschon Johnson still managed to score a touchdown.
Last season, the Pack allowed the 10th most rushing touchdowns to opposing running backs with 13 with two through the air.
While Robinson is the more dynamic back, Allgeier consistently gets the job done and it’s very encouraging to see him more involved in the passing game after making 3+ catches in only 3 of 16 games last season.
The books have taken notice as Robinson sits at +120 while Allgeier has moved to +175. I’ll favor the better odds on the back who should equal if not eclipse the workload of Robinson on Sunday.
