NBA Player Prop Prediction 1: D’Angelo Russell

Los Angeles Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell finished the 2022-23 campaign with 17.8 points, 3.0 assists and 6.2 assists on 46.9% shooting.

Lakers head coach Darvin Ham has gone on the record stating that he expects a big season from his starting point guard.

However, Russell had trouble consistently scoring against the interior defense of the Denver Nuggets during the Western Conference Finals, shooting only 32.3% from the field. Russell fell short of 14 points in all four games of the Nuggets sweep, scoring only 4, 3, 10 and 8 points.

He also fell short in 2 of 3 regular season games against Denver, scoring only 10, 18 and 13 points. The Lakers also have plenty of scoring options on Opening Night including Lebron James, Anthony Davis and Austin Reeves.

Combine that with the addition of another scoring option in backup point guard Gabe Vincent and we see Russell falling short of this total against the Nuggets in the season opener.

The Prop Pick: D’Angelo Russell UNDER 13.5 Points (+105)

NBA Player Prop Prediction 2: Klay Thompson OVER 19.5 Points (-125)

Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson finished his first regular season in quite some time with 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists on 43.6% shooting from the field.

Thompson is entering the final season of his current 189-million-dollar contract in Golden State, and he has recently stated that he will likely play out the rest of the season before negotiating a potential extension in the Bay area.

Thompson was a completely different player at home than on the road last season, averaging 24.4 points on 44.7% shooting at the Oracle compared to 19.2 points on 42.3% on the road.

The home/road splits also played out against the Suns as Thompson scored 38 & 29 at home and only 19 and 2 in Phoenix.

The contract situation isn’t the only narrative entering this game as Thompson was ejected in the 2-point game against Phoenix last season after picking up a second technical for exchanging some harsh words with Devin Booker.

Thompson was also on minutes restriction early in the year and that should be lifted after getting a full season under his belt.

The best way to earn a contract is to ball out and put up some serious numbers and with Thompson playing at home in a game where motivation won’t be questioned, we will gladly take his over 19.5 points.
