Browns Strengths and Weaknesses
Cleveland has the stingiest pass defense in the NFL, allowing only a 57.4% completion rate. Their yardage differential was +1,117. The yards-per-carry rush ratio was 3.9-4.3. Cleveland had a turnover ratio of -9, and Flacco himself threw way too many interceptions.
Texans Strengths and Weaknesses
Houston was among the league leaders in stopping the run all season long. C.J. Stroud was not only a rookie QB sensation, he was clearly one of the best QB’s in the NFL regardless of his lack of NFL experience.
He was not turnover-prone, leading to an overall turnover mark of +10. RB Singletary showed occasional success, but the run game was not consistent. Houston allowed way too many pass completions (67.6%).
Browns vs Texans Prediction: The PICK
Cleveland’s offensive line allowed 45 sacks, but that figure is misleading. Joe Flacco’s experience showed, as he was sacked only eight times in five games. It wasn’t long ago (12/24) that Cleveland came to Houston and won 36-22, leading 36-7 midway through the 4th quarter.
Flacco threw for 368 yards in that game, and Amari Cooper caught eleven passes for 265 yards. C.J. Stroud did NOT play in that game, but Houston’s defense has to get better to make this competitive.
I will consider taking Houston with a line of plus 3 based on Power Rating value. A prop consideration might be Stroud throwing an interception vs. Cleveland’s tight pass coverage.
Lean: Texans +3 and CJ Stroud to Throw an Interception
