O’Shaquie Foster vs Abraham Nova Betting Analysis
WBC junior lightweight champion O’Shaquie Foster will look to defend his belt on Friday night over in New York City against hard-hitting Puerto Rican Abraham Nova.
Foster comes off an absolute firefight back in October when he rallied to stop Eduardo Hernandez in the final round of their fight down in Mexico while Nova has put together back-to-back victories since his one and only loss to Robeisy Ramirez 18 months ago.
O’Shaquie Foster comes into this fight as the prohibitive -900 favorite, with Abraham Nova coming back at a +550.
Stalemate In The Division
Since Shakur Stevenson’s move up to the lightweight division, the junior lightweight picture has looked a little fractured, with four champions holding four different versions of the belt, and little in the way of progress in terms of solidifying those belts either.
The closest we’ve come to a potential unified champion in the division has been O’Shaquie Foster’s recent beef with unbeaten IBF champion Joe Cordina, easily one of the best matchups that could be made at junior lightweight right now.
However, with Foster fighting Nova on Friday night and Cordina scheduled to face Anthony Cacace in the very near future, it’s unclear when exactly these two champions will get a chance to cross paths.
Nova On The Comeback Trail
After an excellent amateur career and a 21-0 start to his professional career also, Abraham Nova’s first step up to the big league’s against two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramirez was an optimistic one.
However, that optimism soon turned into a crushing knockout loss for the Puerto Rican fighter, a stoppage he is determined to rebound from with a solid performance against O’Shaquie Foster on Friday.
Nova would be forgiven for easing himself back into the sport after that devastating loss as well, but instead, he took on the ever-game Adam Lopez in New York, putting Lopez down twice in that fight to see out a comfortable points decision win.
O’Shaquie Foster vs Abraham Nova Expert Prediction
Despite recent solid performances against Adam Lopez and Jonatan Romero last time out, it’s clear Abraham Nova has reached his ceiling at the elite level in the division, likely falling just short of what’s needed in order to capture a title at junior lightweight.
That’s not to say O’Shaquie Foster is unbeatable here either, in fact, Foster’s execution of the shoulder roll and his sometimes lazy mid-range jab both provide tremendous opportunities for high-level opponents to take advantage of and exploit, but that’s unlikely to be Abraham Nova in this one.
Nova likes to leave his hands low in fights and rely on his reflexes to create an advantage in the pocket against opponents, but that style while offensively solid, does leave him open on the back end, as he was lured into several traps against Robeisy Ramirez in their fight which ultimately ended up with him getting stopped.
That was Nova’s only stoppage loss however, and he faces a fighter in Foster on Friday who isn’t known as a particularly big puncher either, so the most likely outcome on Friday is that the more skillful boxer O’Shaquie Foster simply has too much ring craft for Abraham Nova in this one, and sees out a semi-comfortable decision victory in New York City.
O’Shaquie Foster vs Abraham Nova Prediction: O’Shaquie Foster by Dec/Tech Dec (-130)
