Pennzoil 400 Track: Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Vegas is a basic cookie-cutter 1.5-mile oval which is the home track of Kurt and Kyle Busch. The track was resurfaced a few years ago, and Kyle Busch talked about how it was a bit tough right after it was resurfaced, but now you can run at the bottom or top so drivers will be trying different lines.

This is not pack racing like the last couple of weeks so expect cars to change throughout the race with adjustments on pit stops, tire wear and changing temperatures.

Green flag pit stops will certainly be an important factor as entering the pit stops can be difficult as can avoiding speeding penalties.

Ross Chastain has the best average finish here over the last four races with an average finish of 5.5, but Kyle Busch, William Byron, and Martin Truex are right behind him.

The Chevy’s of Hendricks have won the last three races here, and before that Ford won the previous three races. Toyota just has not had success here as they’ve won only three Pennzoil 400 races at Vegas.

Pennzoil 400 Outright Winner Prediction

Joey Logano +1100

Logano is feast or famine as he had 11 finishes outside the top 20 and 11 finishes 5th or better in 2023, and after a bad couple of weeks at Daytona and Atlanta, he’ll be anxious to rip off some strong finishes to get back into the points race.

However, a win would be the best way to not worry about the points. I expect him to take chances this week with the setup and in-race adjustments, and his regular season win came in March last year. Logano is going to get a win this year, I won’t be surprised at all if it’s this week.

Alex Bowman +1800

Bowman was pretty bad at the end of last season, but he started off 2023 strong including a 3rd place finish at Las Vegas in early March. I expect Hendricks to be strong at this track, so getting him at 18-1 is so much better value than Larson at +450 or Byron at +900.

Pennzoil Head-to-Head Pick

William Byron -115 over Denny Hamlin

Hamlin finished 10th and 11th here last year, and while Byron ran into trouble in the spring race, he showed his upside in the fall with a 7th-place finish.

I believe the Hendricks cars will thrive and the Toyota’s will struggle a bit so this matchup is right in the sweet spot for me.

Pennzoil 400 Manufacturer Winner Prediction

I have to back the Hendricks cars at this track as they’ve shown they can win here consistently. I’ll take Chevy at +120 to win, with a smaller sprinkle on Ford at +300. I don’t believe the Toyotas will be a threat this week.
