Hometown hero Dalton Smith will look to put one foot onto the world stage on Saturday night as he takes on the vastly more experienced Jose Zepeda inside Sheffield Arena this weekend.

Smith, who is 15-0-0 with 11 stoppages, comes off a monster one-punch KO victory over Sam Maxwell in his last fight and will look to make a similar statement on Saturday night against Zepeda.

Zepeda for his part has fought the much higher caliber of competition across his career to date, with names such as Jose Ramirez, Jose Pedraza, Ivan Baranchyk, and Regis Prograis littering his resume, but does come off two losses across his last three fights, one of which was to the aforementioned Regis Prograis and the other to the highly talented Richardson Hitchins also.

Dalton Smith enters Saturday night’s contest as the -330 favorite, with Jose Zepeda coming back as a +250 underdog.

Dalton Smith Looking To Reach That Next Level

Training out of the Steel City in Sheffield, one of the UK’s most iconic fighting cities, Dalton Smith will be looking to take his talents outside of domestic and European level with a statement victory here on Saturday night against a vastly more seasoned campaigner than him in Jose Zepeda.

Smith may be on the short end of the wedge in this one when it comes to experience, but in his father, trainer Grant Smith, plus a packed Sheffield crowd inside the Arena also, he’ll own two of the biggest advantages in this fight before that first bell rings.

Zepeda Hoping For Better Luck On Return Visit

Following on from his first visit to the UK almost nine years ago, Jose Zepeda will be hoping for much more luck this time around as he makes his return trip to the English shores.

Jose Zepeda traveled over to Manchester, England back in 2015 to take on ‘Turbo’ Terry Flanagan for the vacant WBO lightweight title, but in an unfortunate set of circumstances, ended up dislocating his shoulder throwing a punch early on, forcing Zepeda into a premature retirement from the contest.

This is a very tricky fight to call as Dalton Smith, while having all the tools to succeed here, a great jab, good power, a fantastic trainer in Grant Smith, and the hometown edge also, does face a monster test this weekend in the vastly more experienced, and legitimate world level campaigner Jose Zepeda on Saturday.

Jose Zepeda may have lost two of his last three fights, but they were against top-tier opposition in Regis Prograis and Richardson Hitchins respectively, and Dalton Smith has been nowhere near that level to date.

While both men possess a combined 74% KO ratio across their careers so far, I’m not expecting a stoppage in this one as both fighters have great chins and both are adept at high-level boxing as well, despite their ferocious power.

The UK has built up somewhat of a notorious reputation for siding with the hometown fighter in bouts in the past, so perhaps Zepeda will have to go well above and beyond what’s necessary here in order to get his hand raised this weekend, especially in Smith’s backyard of Sheffield, but it’s not outside the realms of possibility either.

Because of that, the most likely outcome in this one is Dalton Smith to win by decision/technical decision at -110, but we most certainly wouldn’t put anyone off the +430 on offer for a Jose Zepeda points victory on Saturday either.
