Jordan Gill vs Zelfa Barrett Betting Analysis

Two fighters right in the thick of it in terms of angling towards a potential world title decider possibly later this year clash over in Manchester this weekend live on DAZN.

Jordan Gill, who’s ranked #8 with the WBA, picking up their International title in his last fight against Michael Conlan back in December, will face #6 ranked Zelfa Barret in an all-British showdown this Saturday.

Zelfa Barrett enters this weekend’s contest as the -210 favorite, with Jordan Gill coming back as a +170 underdog, in what is a hugely important fight for both men with them having two losses apiece on their resumes to date across their respective careers so far.

Career-Best Performance For Gill

Coming off a career-worst performance back in October 2022 against the ever-tough Kiko Martinez, a fight that saw Gill get put down multiple times in and eventually stopped in the 4th round, Gill admitted he went into a spiral of depression after that result and was meant to be easy pickings for a fighter in Michael Conlan who was on the comeback trail himself after getting demolished in his previous fight by Luis Alberto Lopez also.

Conlan entered that fight as the massive -750 favorite in his hometown of Belfast, in what was meant to be a straightforward comeback fight for the Irishman, facing an opponent in Gill who not only got badly beaten up in his last fight, but who was also coming off an extended 14-month layoff as well.

However, Jordan Gill mustn’t have received the memo as the +600 underdog pulled off one of the shocks of 2023, aggressively walking down Conlan in that fight and stopping him in the 7th round in what was a great back-and-forth contest.

Barrett Looks To Get Back Into World Title Contention

In what has been either fighter’s only world title fight to date over the course of their respective careers so far, Zelfa Barrett came up short against tough Tajikistan fighter Shavkat Rakhimov back in November of 2022 in a title made available after Joe Cordina was stripped, something he’s since regained ahold of.

Barrett started that fight well however, putting Rakhimov down early in the fight before succumbing to constant pressure late on from the Tajikistan fighter in, what appeared to be an apparent leg injury, which seemed to severely hamper Barrett’s ability to move away and counter Rakhimov in that fight, eventually leading to a stoppage in the 9th round.

Jordan Gill vs Zelfa Barrett Expert Prediction

It’s not easy to fade a fighter coming in off such an emotional career-best performance as what Jordan Gill just produced. In other sports, it’s often a prime spot to fade a team, but in boxing, especially with fighters around the 30-year-old mark, it often galvanizes them, leading them to have almost second careers in a way such as what happened with fellow countryman Leigh Wood.

That said, Zelfa Barrett is the far more mobile of these two fighters, able to evade common opponent Kiko Martinez a lot easier than Gill was able to.

On top of that, while Barrett is not a fighter who likes to stand and trade in the pocket against an opponent, he can nevertheless crack hard, with fast, explosive counters, something he showed to great effect both in that Rakhimov fight, and against Eric Donovan also.

Jordan Gill has shown he’s susceptible to hard counters in fights, especially uppercuts, a punch Barrett throws extremely well also, with Gill going down three times against Mario Enrique Tinico, once against Karim Guerfi, and four times against Kiko Martinez also, with even Michael Conlan connecting with flush uppercuts in their fight as well but without the power to capitalize.

Zelfa Barrett certainly has that power, and while he’s not a monstrous puncher by any stretch, Jordan Gill has shown enough defensive frailties and gaps in his defense across his career so far that Barrett could land something big on Saturday night and potentially close the show early in this one.

Jordan Gill vs Zelfa Barrett Prediction: Zelfa Barrett by KO/TKO (+120)
