Paddy Donovan vs Lewis Ritson Betting Analysis

A huge statement fight for Paddy Donovan is on deck this weekend as the Irishman takes on former European title contender Lewis Ritson on Saturday over in Leeds, England.

Irish phenom Donovan has 13 straight wins to start his career so far, with 10 coming inside the distance as well, as he looks to launch himself into the world title picture sometime later this year.

Ritson meanwhile is coming off a knockout loss against Ohara Davies in his last fight back in March of last year, but will look to rebuild towards yet another title run himself by taking on the highly-regarded Donovan this weekend.

Paddy Donovan comes into this one as the substantial favorite, going off at around -2500 at most books, with Lewis Ritson coming back at around +950.

“The Most Handsome Fighter Since Muhammad Ali”

That is how legendary promoter Bob Arum described Paddy Donovan upon signing him back in 2019, and the Irish fighter has taken little aesthetic damage since, only seeing the 7th round in just two of his 13 fights to date.

Since that electric start to his career, Donovan has inked deals with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing also who are adamant about building Donovan into a major force in the welterweight division, and bringing big-time world title fights back to Ireland in the near future.

The ‘Geordie GGG’ Falls Short

Since losing a split decision against Francesco Patera on home soil back in 2018 for the European lightweight title, it’s been a rollercoaster of a ride for the former ‘Geordie GGG’, who certainly possesses the aggression and tenacity of his namesake, but unfortunately not the defense.

Solid wins against both Robbie Davies Jr. and Miguel Vazquez were offset by stoppage defeats against Jeremias Ponce and Ohara Davies in his previous fight, the last of which came via brutal body shot as well.

Paddy Donovan vs Lewis Ritson Expert Prediction

It’s no real surprise to see Paddy Donovan go into this one as the substantial favorite given where both fighters currently find themselves in their respective careers.

Paddy Donovan, even as the slightly shorter man going into this one, is the natural welterweight of the two, and has power in both hands as well, putting down Herrera in his last fight with a beautifully timed left hook to the body, a punch that could prove decisive in this fight also.

That said, Donovan was having issues with Herrera’s relentless aggression in that fight prior to the stoppage, and fighters don’t come much more aggressive than Lewis Ritson, so Donovan could be under massive pressure early on Saturday.

However, Donovan is extremely precise in his methodology in the ring, and given Ritson’s virtually open defense at times, the Irishman will have plenty of opportunity to land something devastating on Saturday night and close the show over in Leeds well before the final bell.
