NRFI Prediction 1: Toronto Blue Jays at Oakland A’s (-110)

The Blue Jays have not scored a run in the first in 27 games. We won, backing this team to not score in the first every day so far this week. Let’s keep it up. The Blue Jays average .31 runs per first frame, and the figure drops to .29 on the road, so we like the NRFI. They have averaged 0 runs over their last three games, so we expect more of the same.

The Athletics are even worse in the first inning, averaging .25 runs per first inning. The A’s have averaged zero runs per first inning over their last three games. Their run production in the first frame decreases to an MLB-worst .19 runs at home, making this a great NRFI target. Both offenses’ lack of first-inning success makes this a great NRFI target.

NRFI Best Bet Today #2 Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals (-110)

The Braves put up .45 runs per first frame, which is middle of the pack, and we are fading them today. They are averaging zero runs in the first inning over their last three games. The Braves score .21 runs in the first on the road, so there is a major dropoff. They are facing righty Jake Irvin, who has been solid this season and has a .252 xwOBA against the Braves’ current roster.

The Nationals are averaging .23 runs in the first frame, which is dead last in the MLB. So far this season, they are averaging .19 runs at home. Left-handed starter Chris Sale makes a start for Atlanta, and Sale has a .206 xwOBA against the current Nationals roster.
