Oklahoma City Thunder vs Chicago Bulls Analysis

The Oklahoma City Thunder will play host to the Chicago Bulls in a battle of two struggling teams on Monday night. The Bull are now 28-17 after losing 114-95 on Sunday night in Orlando against the Magic. Meanwhile the Thunder also lost their last game 94-87 on Saturday against the Cleveland Cavaliers. This will be first of two head-to-head meetings between these teams that will meet again on February 12th.

Thunder Not So Mighty

The Oklahoma City are only 14-32 after losing 5 straight games as well as 9 of their last 10 games. They are now only a half game above the Houston Rockets for the leagues worst record. In their latest loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Gilgeous-Alexander leads the team in scoring on the season with 22.8 points a game. The Thunder are dead last in the NBA in scoring, field goal percentage and three-point percentage. It’s a rarity, but Oklahoma City is a fully healthy team. The Thunder are also dead last in scoring, with only 100.3 points a game. They are just above average defensively, ranking 13th with 107.8 points allowed per game.

Bulls Season In Peril

After a promising start to the season, things are starting to unravel for the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls have lost six of their last seven games as well as seven of their last nine. They may have hit rock bottom in their last game, losing 114-95 to NBA’s worst team the Orlando Magic. Demar Derozan had a great game, shooting 15 for 21 from the field en route to 41 points. Nikola Vucevic had a double-double with 13 points and rebounds, but shot a dismal 4 from 19 from the field. Injuries have really taken their toll as the Bulls are currently without Zach Lavine, Alex Caruso, Lonzo Ball, Javonte Green and Derrick Jones Jr.

These are significant injuries as Lavine scores 24.9 points while Ball and Caruso both provide amazing ball handling and perimeter defense. Over the last 7 games the once mighty Bulls defense has allowed 114 points or more 5 times. The Bulls now rank 16th with over 108 points allowed per game. On offense they rank 12th with 110.3 points scored a game.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs Chicago Bulls Prediction

The Chicago Bulls are two point road favorites with an over/under set at 216.5. Both these teams have amazing against the spread records, the Bulls are 26-18 against the spread while the Thunder are 29-16-1 against the spread. The Bulls are 5-4 against the spread in the second of back-to-back games. The Thunder are 13-6-1 against the spread at home, but are usually sizeable underdogs.

Both teams are middle of the pack in pace and both trend towards the under. The Thunder have an 18-28 over/under record. The Bulls have struggled to score without Lavine and company and you have to expect them to be locked in after yesterday’s embarrassment. Instead of trying to pick a side I’m going to take the under as it seems a bit high for this contest.

PREDICTION: UNDER 217

Oklahoma City Thunder vs Chicago Bulls Preview from GoldSheet

Chicago was getting a bit thin, with backup PG Alex Caruso (fractured wrist) joining PG Lonzo Ball, G Javonte Green and F Zach LaVine among a few others on the injured list. HC Billy Donovan could have some good news on the injury front, as both Green and LaVine are joining the team for this 3rd game of the 3-game road trip. Bulls are coming off a humiliating loss in Orlando yesterday, as Chicago dropped a 114-95 decision to a team that had won just two of its previous 19 home games this season.

That result came despite a 41-point outburst from DeMar DeRozan, the loss at the feat of thinned-out bench contributing only 10 pts. and 8 rebounds (compared with 51 & 14 plus 13 assists for the Magic reserves), and the squad making only 5 of 21 from beyond the arc. Oklahoma City has lost 5 straight and 10 of 11 straight up, and pointspread in this one has been whittled down to the point Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (27 ppg, 48% FGs L7Gs) and the Thunder will just about have to win this one, and Lu Dort has been shooting just 39% over his last seven. If Chicago can get minutes out of LaVine and Green, Bulls win.
