2024 Men’s Olympic Golf Course: Le Golf National

This is a great course for the Olympics as it’s seen Ryder Cup action, and this isn’t a course that can be overpowered.

Wayward drives will be punished with water, bunkers and rough, and the greens are no picnic to putt on as they have good contours, and they should be set up a bit fast this week despite there being some rain in the forecast for Tuesday.

The weather looks to be calm this week so that will help the scoring, but this is all about hitting fairways to give yourself a chance to hit the green.

Players can’t bomb the ball off the tee with wreckless abandon, and approach shots much hit many of the greens as getting up and down is no guarantee.

If the weather stays calm, I expect the winning score to be around -13 as there are plenty of scorable holes, but avoiding bogeys all week will be impossible.

2024 Men’s Olympic Golf Favorite Holes

Hole 6: 380 Yard Par 4

There are no bunkers, and no water, just a fairway with a lot of moguls on it and a green that is 50 yards long at it’s 2 longest points.

These guys are going to bomb it if the pin is close to the front, and if the tee placement is favorable. Drives that come up short will test the players/caddies yardage predictions and executions with wedges, and we’ll see plenty of birdies.

However, wayward drives could give players some awkward stances and lies with all the moguls and thick rough so this one should be a lot of fun.

Hole 17: 481 Yard Par 4

Again, another hole without bunkers or water, but the fairway is very narrow, and any approach shot that misses left will roll down a hill to a landing area for a difficult up and down.

I love the simplicity of this hole as it rewards straight shots down the fairway and into the green, and punishes even slightly wayward shots without needing gimmicky bunkers or water hazards.

Hole 18: 471 Yard Par 4

This is such a great finishing hole as the drive has trouble everywhere. There is water on the left, and 6 bunkers on the right so hitting the fairway is imperative as the green is brutal.

There is water short, right and long so if you don’t get the drive correct off the tee, you’ll be left with tons of trouble going into this green. No lead will be safe on Sunday with this hole as the closer.

2024 Men’s Olympic Golf: Players That Can Trip You Up

Rory McIlroy

He’s the least accurate driver out of the top 10 priced guys outside of Joaquin Niemann, and as easy as this course can be if you hit the ball long and straight, it can be hard if you’re not accurate off the tee, and I don’t think Rory has it in him to take accuracy over power when he needs to.

His lack of patience reared it’s ugly head at The Open Championship, and if he gets too aggressive at times, he’ll put himself in bad positions. He’s a Top 3 priced golfer this week, I don’t think he returns that kind of value.

Viktor Hovland

He’s priced as a Top 10 guy this week, and his play around the green is going to be a problem this week as there are bunkers, and rough around the greens, and hitting the greens is no guarantee if your approach shot is coming out of the rough or has a bad lie.

Out of 60 golfers, he’s 49th in the field around the green, and I think it costs him enough strokes to not get into the Top 10. Hovland has no Top 10’s in his last 5 tournaments.
