Kansas State College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?
Kansas St is 27-13 over the past three seasons. Expect more of the same this season.
2024 Kansas State NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:
Will Howard is gone, but there’s massive excitement with Soph QB Avery Johnson, who is the dual threat this team covets.
He could be special, but other than having a solid lead RB, I have three offensive issues. 1st, I will be watching Johnson’s completion %, which could take time to develop. 2nd, the OL is clearly weaker, with two off to the NFL and just one returning starter.
Finally, TE’s are important in this system, and they lost a good one to the NFL (2nd round). Defensively, the run D disappointed last year, at 5.0 allowed per carry. I expect improvement (4.5), but pass pressure could be reduced with their top two pass rushers gone.
The defensive backfield is one of the best in the Big 12. My final watch area is turnovers. They’ve been +23 in that area over the past two seasons. Even modest reduction will cost them some “free” points.

5-2 through the tougher two game road stand, and 9-2 before hosting Iowa St.
I have some questions about this team that need answering, but the schedule says 9-3 and maybe even 10-2, giving them a spot in the Big 12 title game.

2024 Kansas State Football Schedule and Games to Watch
Kansas St could start 4-0, even with offensive uncertainty, as they face two new coaches (at Tulane, home to Arizona), plus face BYU, although that is also a road game. Kansas St does not play prime contenders Iowa State or Utah this year, and the Arizona game was pre-scheduled, and does NOT count in the standings.
That leaves Oklahoma St, who travels to Manhattan, Kansas on 9/28. Kansas St has generally done well in this spot. A win here gives the Wildcats the inside track to the title game and a playoff berth. Three “tough” games remain. Kansas St has consecutive road games at Colorado and West Virginia. The season finale is hosting Iowa St.
It’s possible the Wildcats could be favored all 12 games this season! At 41-22 vs. the spread, Chris Klieman’s team could be hard to beat, but I’m still keeping a close eye on the keys listed above.
Kansas State 2024 Football Expert HANDICAPPING TIP
I was 80% ATS with Snyder here (28-7) prior to his 1st retirement. I was 7-7 during the Ron Prince “error”. I rebounded going 27-15 in Snyder’s 2nd stint, which does not include a perfect 5-0 in bowl games.
After a slow start, my record with Klieman’s is now 15-7 (including 3-0 in bowls, and 4-0 in ‘23). I’ll look Kansas St’s way if the rush stat formula is in their favor when they host Kansas. Data overall is 53-27 (12-8 lately) ATS when in their favor.
