NFL Week 2 Team Total Prediction: Washington Commanders OVER 22.5 (-112) DK

Heading into the 2024 campaign, I ranked these teams as two of the worst defenses in the NFL and Week 1 supported that belief.

The Washington Commanders were crushed 37-20 on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while the New York Giants were dismantled 28-6 in Minnesota against the Vikings and both teams allowed over 6 yards per play.

However, the Commanders offense did show some signs of life behind Heisman Award winner Jayden Daniels who put up 184 yards through the air while running the ball for 88 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

Daniels dual threat ability is going to cause headaches for the Giants and the combination of Austin Ekeler, Brian Robinson Jr, Terry McLaurin and Zach Ertz provide some interesting weapons in the passing game.

Daniel Jones was also running for his life behind a horrendous offensive line and wound up getting sacked five times.

Jones also threw two interceptions including a pick 6 so there could also be opportunities for the Washington defense to score or at least provide a short field.

The Commanders were the only team in the NFL that didn’t cover at home last season, but this is different team, and they will be amped up in their first contest at home.

I also like this number as the Commanders can get there in a multitude of ways, but it may not matter as I fully expect Washington to at least match the points Minnesota put up last week.

NFL Week 2 Team Total Prediction: Seattle Seahawks UNDER 21.5 (-135) DK

Both of these teams will need to rely on their defense to compete or win games throughout the 2024 season.

The Seattle Seahawks offense struggled early in a home game against a lackluster Denver Broncos defense that recorded two safeties and forced two turnovers. Seattle was able to right the ship and ultimately score 26 points but that was mostly due to Kenneth Walker III racking up 103 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

However, Walker left the game with an abdominal injury and he’s questionable heading into Week 2. The Seahawks veteran right tackle George Fant also left the game with a knee injury and if he’s unavailable it could leave a struggling offensive line playing with what amounts to a 3rd stringer as Fant was playing in place of Abraham Lucas.

The New England Patriots defense shined in Week 1 as they pitched a shutout in the first half and ultimately held the Cincinnati Bengals to a total of 10 points on 224 total of total offense.

Jared Mayo’s defensive game plan had Joe Burrow flustered while also forcing two fumbles. One of those fumbles was forced by Matthew Judon’s replacement Keion White who dominated Cincinnati while also recording 2.5 sacks in the process.

This game has to makings of a rock fight and now Seattle has to deal with traveling and playing a one o’clock game on the East Coast.
