Southampton vs Ipswich | September 21 | 10:00AM ET
Southampton +125 | Manchester United +2215 | Draw +255
After starting the season with four straight losses, things are looking extremely ominous for Southampton’s chances to stay in the Premier League this season, even this early in the year, a fact highlighted by their just-one-goal return from those opening four games as well.
Facing them at St. Mary’s this weekend is another team in Ipswich that are expected to go down this season, but one that has resiliently carved out two draws across their last two games in the Premier League to generate some momentum.
Under manager Kieran McKenna, Ipswich arguably couldn’t have asked for a better start either, always liable to lose their opening two games of the season against Liverpool and Manchester City respectively, but did respond well, taking two solid points against good teams in both Fulham and Brighton.
That is what makes this such a huge game on Saturday down on the south coast as a loss here for either team against a similarly placed relegation rival would put a serious dent in morale moving forward, a fact not lost on either manager ahead of this game.
Southampton’s struggles in front of goals however do stand out like a sore thumb here, averaging just 0.25 GPG so far along with the lowest shots per game count out of any team at home in the Premier League also.
Tack on the fact that Ipswich won both of their fixtures against Southampton last season down in the Championship, including a 1-0 road win at St. Mary’s, and we have to look towards taking the Tractor Boys in this one.
Premier League Prediction: Ipswich to Win to Nil (+550)
Tottenham vs Brentford | September 21 | 10:00AM ET
Tottenham -180 | Brentford +425 | Draw +365
Sitting in 13th position overall in the table and averaging a paltry 1 point per game so far, Tottenham are currently enduring one of their worst starts to a Premier League campaign in almost a decade, a fact that likely won’t be helped by them facing Manchester United, Brighton, and West Ham across their next three Premier League games either.
In addition to that, Ange Postecoglou’s already thin squad is being stretched to breaking point, with seven games scheduled for Tottenham within just 22 days, and with EFL Cup duties on Wednesday, combined with their upcoming Europa League campaign kicking off next week also, it puts even more focus on Tottenham’s need to not slip up any further here this weekend.
Facing them in this one on Saturday is a Brentford side that has started the season well, losing to both Liverpool and Manchester City as expected, but achieving what they needed to against Crystal Palace and Southampton, with Thomas Frank no doubt pleased with the start his team has made.
However, with Yoane Wissa out with an ankle injury for the Bees ahead of this matchup, Brentford will be missing one of their key attacking threats, a crucial concern for a team that ranks joint-3rd in goals scored from open play this season.
Even with that injury however, Tottenham and Brentford games have tended to be goal-fests across recent seasons, averaging a colossal 4.25 GPG since 2022, and that could well be on the cards once again here on Saturday given both team’s lackluster defenses to start the season.
Premier League Prediction: Over 3 (-145)
Manchester City vs Arsenal | September 22 | 11:30AM ET
Manchester City -125 | Arsenal +350 | Draw +275
The biggest game of the weekend by a stretch, and a potential early title decider also, kicks off this Sunday as Arsenal and Manchester City meet at the Etihad to put their stamp on this season’s Premier League title race.
For Manchester City, it’s been an imperious start to the season overall, with four wins banked from four games with eleven goals scored also, the highest count in the league by a significant margin.
Towering sensation Erling Haaland has been chief among that goal haul for Manchester City as well, scoring nine of their eleven goals, but despite their 100% start, there is some room for optimism for Arsenal ahead of this fixture.
Firstly, Manchester City have kept just one clean sheet across those opening four games, with Ipswich, West Ham, and Brentford all finding the back of the net against them.
Secondly, despite the number of goals Manchester City has scored this season, their attacking presence hasn’t exactly been overwhelming, especially at home, where they sit behind the likes of Fulham, Bournemouth, Brighton, and Crystal Palace in terms of shots per game this year, with City coming off a fairly toothless performance in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw at home against Inter in the Champions League also.
Arsenal meanwhile look to have Bukayo Saka back for this game after he came off early against Tottenham, along with Declan Rice being healthy also, but midfield general Martin Odegaard remains out, which is a huge blow to Arsenal’s chances in this game given how pivotal he’s been to the Gunners across recent seasons.
Given what’s at stake for this game, both team’s stellar defenses, along with their largely underperforming attacks as well, we could well see another 0-0 draw play out here like the last time these two teams met up back in April at this venue, and that’s the way we’ll look for Sunday.
Premier League Both Teams to Score – No (-105)
