Commonwealth and British super featherweight champion Reece Bellotti returns to the ring this weekend to take on the hard-charging Michael Gomez Jr. who has been on a protracted winning streak across the last few years in what should be an all-action fight on Saturday.

Bellotti, who enters Saturday’s contest after securing a points decision win against common opponent Levi Giles back in July, is having his third contest of the year currently as he looks to stay busy en route to hopefully landing another big payday down the road sometime next year.

Michael Gomez Jr. is another fighter looking to take that next step in the world rankings after securing the English super featherweight title back in April, yet books have him pegged as the clear outsider heading into this one, with Bellotti coming in as a -250 favorite at most books, with Gomez Jr. coming back as a +220 underdog.

Bellotti’s Experience In Stark Contrast To His Record

With a professional record of 19-5, and getting stopped badly on two occasions as well, Reece Bellotti’s resume might not immediately strike fear into the hearts of many opponents who simply look at his record.

Yet that record underlies a level of experience that is rarely seen at the domestic level, with Reece Bellotti going in against the likes of Ryan Walsh, Jordan Gill, and especially former WBA featherweight champion Raymond Ford three years ago as well, all quality operators in their own right.

That experience has Bellotti out on his own in terms of know-how at the British level, having fought a level of competition that few other fighters get to see domestically.

Gomez Jr. On The Rise

After securing a hard-fought split decision over Levi Giles last year to claim the British title, Gomez Jr. has gone from strength to strength in the domestic rankings, winning a clear decision against a very negative Joshua Ocampo last November, as well as brutally stopping Kane Baker earlier this year also, a win that got him this shot against the British and Commonwealth champion.

Gomez Jr. is a tall awkward fighter who has a good engine in the ring, something which he used to full effect in that Kane Baker fight earlier this year. That said, he has yet to face the level of competition that Reece Bellotti has faced up to this point, and that could be key on Saturday.

This should be an action-packed fight from start to finish on Saturday, with Bellotti’s vastly superior experience up against Michael Gomez Jr.’s momentum and offensive style.

Neither fighter is especially gifted defensively, and that could lead to trouble for both in this one, with Michael Gomez Jr.’s chin guard especially being ripe for top-class opponents to pick apart at the world level.

However, Bellotti isn’t at that elite level, and Gomez Jr. is as tough as they come, and while we do believe Bellotti’s experience should get him over the line on Saturday, we don’t see him stopping Gomez Jr. in the process.
