Robeisy Ramirez vs Rafael Espinoza Betting Analysis

The sequel to what was an extremely thrilling back-and-forth war late last year gets its second iteration this weekend as former WBO featherweight world champion Robeisy Ramirez looks to wrestle back what was once his when he takes on former conqueror Rafael Espinoza this weekend over in Phoenix.

The champion, Ramirez, went in as a huge favorite into that first fight back in December, closing in and around the -1200 mark at most books, with Espinoza coming back at anywhere between a +600 to +750 underdog.

However, those odds proved to be wildly off the mark as the much taller Mexican proved a formidable obstacle to the former two-time Olympic gold medalist, with Espinoza claiming the majority decision victory after a brutal twelve-round war that saw both fighters taste the canvas.

The odds have been adjusted heavily this time around as a result of that first fight, with Robeisy Ramirez now coming in as the marginal -145 favorite, with champion Rafael Espinoza coming back as a +125 underdog.

Ramirez Finding It Difficult To Match His Talent To Results

With one of the best amateur pedigrees in the entire sport, along with one of its most lethal left hands also, big things were expected of Robeisy Ramirez when he turned pro, and even more so since his move up to the featherweight division.

Despite starting his career off with a shock loss in his opening debut, Ramirez went on a run of thirteen straight wins, with statement victories at 126lb along that run against the likes of Abraham Nova and Isaac Dogboe proving that the Cuban has all of the necessary goods to take over the division.

However, last year’s loss to Rafael Espinoza put a real spanner in the works for Ramirez, and now the Cuban needs to find that magic once again if he’s going to live his dream of becoming undisputed.

Espinoza Out To Prove Last Time Was No Fluke

Despite standing at a rangy 6’1″ tall, and being undefeated heading into that first fight, not many people gave the young Mexican much of a chance of dethroning his much more decorated Cuban opponent.

However, Rafael Espinoza proved everyone wrong, rallying back from a 5th-round knockdown in that fight to overwhelm Ramirez and claim the close majority decision victory.

The test for Espinoza ahead of this one is proving those same doubters wrong all over again, with many people claiming Ramirez was simply unfocused going into that first fight, with talk of potential unifications on the horizon for him.

Whether that was the case or not, it’ll be up to Espinoza to silence those same doubters in this one with another premier-level performance on Saturday.

Robeisy Ramirez vs Rafael Espinoza Expert Prediction

There’s no question that from a technical standpoint at least, Robeisy Ramirez is among one of the best fighters in the sport, ranking top-ten in plus/minus figures, power connect percentage, opponent connect percentage, and opponent power punch connect percentage also, the last two of which he ranks inside the top-three.

However, despite all of his technical brilliance in the ring, Rafael Espinoza proved in their last outing that styles make fights at the end of the day, and Espinoza literally took Ramirez’s own nickname ‘The Train’ and used it to run over him with constant pressure and a non-stop assault across all twelve rounds.

The numbers from the first fight were jarring, with Espinoza throwing 995 punches compared with Ramirez’s much more conservative 376, with Espinoza’s 640 power punches thrown dwarfing Ramirez’s 297 also.

The final three rounds were especially an eye-opener, with Espinoza, despite all of his aggressive output up to that point, actually finishing the stronger of the two, with his 229 power punches thrown being far too much for Ramirez’s 64, and those punches landing with brute force as well to the tune of a sizeable 45-8 advantage in the last round alone, a round that saw the Cuban champion go down under the onslaught.

Despite all of Robeisy Ramirez’s technical brilliance, that’s a real concern ahead of this one also as Espinoza’s sheer work-rate and pressure is enough to off-set whatever wizardry Ramirez is capable of, and if Ramirez can’t find a way to seriously hurt Espinoza early in this one, he’ll likely be worn down and beaten just as he was in that first fight.

Robeisy Ramirez vs Rafael Espinoza Prediction: Rafael Espinoza ML (+125)
