Moses Itauma vs Demsey McKean Betting Analysis
Young heavyweight phenom Moses Itauma continues his rise to the top of the heavyweight rankings this weekend as he takes on experienced campaigner Demsey McKean on Saturday over in Saudi Arabia on the undercard of the highly-anticipated Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch.
Moses Itauma, whose initial dream of breaking Mike Tyson’s record as the youngest heavyweight champion ever, looks set not to be realized as promoter Frank Warren has instead opted to guide one of his leading lights on a much more measured path to the top, which starts this weekend in getting him some more much-needed experience against solid heavyweight competition.
Moses Itauma unsurprisingly comes into this fight as the prohibitive -1400 favorite, with Demsey McKean coming back as a +700 underdog.
Itauma Presents A Major Challenge To The Heavyweight Division
At only 19 years of age, and blessed with both hand speed and power, Moses Itauma will likely present a huge problem for the majority of today’s heavyweight champions moving forward.
The other major factor of Itauma’s progression up to this point is just how rapidly he’s developing, looking a little bit flustered in his third fight out against Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko, almost feigning an injury in that fight, to now measuring his work a lot more and not initially looking for the one punch KO mindset that he used to start fights with, and looking far more dangerous as a result.
All of Itauma’s last six opponents have failed to see the start of the third round, including the highly experienced former world title challenger Mariusz Wach last time out, so all eyes will be on Itauma to see if he can maintain that streak on Saturday.
McKean Relocates To Heavyweight Hotbed
Deciding back in 2021 to relocate to current boxing heavyweight Mecca the U.K. from his native Australia three years ago, Demsey McKean has definitely seen an upturn in his career as a result, continually calling out his fellow Australasian Joseph Parker across recent years, and getting busy on Matchroom’s cards also such as his last fight against the dangerous Filip Hrgovic.
McKean acquitted himself well in that fight also in what was his first serious step-up after facing Jonathan Rice back in 2020, and he has all the necessary qualities to provide a stern test for the young gun Itauma this weekend as well.
Moses Itauma vs Demsey McKean Expert Prediction
Demsey McKean showed in his last fight against Filip Hrgovic last year that he isn’t afraid of taking on heavy punchers in the ring, continually looking to push opponents back against him, and looking to come in over the top with probably his favorite punch in his arsenal, a huge overhand left which has stopped more than a few opponents across his career so far.
However, that offensive mindset will very likely cost him in this one as while he no doubt possesses the power to severely hurt Itauma on Saturday should he manage to catch him clean with that powerful left hand, his recklessness on the way in against a counter-puncher as crisp and fluid as Itauma is will nevertheless likely be his downfall.
Overall, despite McKean managing to go 12 rounds against a much more experienced Filip Hrgovic last time out, the styles mesh well here for what will likely be a much quicker finish, so any combination of the fight not to go the distance, Unders, or Itauma by stoppage is likely the way to go this weekend.
