Bottom of the table Southampton, who came off another slender defeat in midweek against West Ham, will desperately look to rally their form heading into the new year as they remain the only team in the league still sitting on a single digit point total for the season.

A huge part of Southampton’s issues this year has been an offense that has netted just 11 total goals all season (0.61 GPG), and it’s no surprise to see the Saints enter matchday 19 holding a massive -26 goal differential as a result, a full 10 goals off next worst Ipswich.

On top of that, Southampton’s aggression rating this season has been off the charts as well, notching up 53 yellow cards along with three straight reds also, a figure that is by far the highest in the league overall heading into this weekend’s fixtures.

Crystal Palace meanwhile have looked decent of late, winless in two straight games in the league, but those games came against both Arsenal and Bournemouth, two of the top six teams in the league currently.

Prior to that however, the Eagles had drawn against Manchester City and put Brighton to the sword in a comprehensive 3-1 win away from home, and since December 1st, only four other teams, Arsenal, Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Chelsea, have accumulated a higher expected points tally than Crystal Palace have.

Crystal Palace won the last fixture between these two teams 2-0 early last year, and we would not be surprised to see a repeat of that scoreline in this one considering the way both teams are currently playing.

Tottenham vs Wolves | December 29 | 10:00AM ET

Wolves have finally wrestled themselves out of the relegation zone after securing back-to-back wins in the league for only the second time all season.

Unfortunately, the first time Wolves managed that feat during the mid-point of November, they then proceeded to go on a protracted four game losing streak, so the Molineux faithful will no doubt hope they can avoid that same fate here.

They face a Tottenham side on Sunday who Wolves own a good record against in North London, winning outright in four of their last six visits here.

However, that was largely in an era of Wolves being a solid defensive unit, something they’ve failed to show this season, allowing a joint-worst 40 goals already this year (2.22 GAPG), along with by far the most set-piece goals allowed this season as well.

Tottenham meanwhile come into this one off another loss in midweek against Nottingham Forest, a team led by former manager Nuno Espirito Santo, which was Spurs’ fourth loss in their last five Premier League games overall as current manager Ange Postecoglou has bemoaned the club’s ongoing injury crisis.

However, an argument can be made that Tottenham actually played well in that game, especially early, as they made Forest clear the ball on 13 separate occasions in the first half alone to their zero, showing exactly the flow of the game prior to that opening goal for the Tricky Trees.

If Tottenham can get off to another quick start here on Sunday, and this is a team that scored eight goals in their prior two games before the loss to Nottingham Forest, then backing Spurs to win and cover at home this weekend looks like decent value against one of the league’s worst defenses.

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United revival was forced to wait for another day as the Red Devils came off another disappointing 2-0 defeat in midweek to relegation-battling Wolves.

That’s five defeats from their last six games domestically and even more concerning for Amorim’s men is the fact they’ve failed to score across either of their two most recent losses also.

That puts Amorim’s stint at the club as the worst start for a Manchester United manager in 93 years, a stat he’s been quick to play down as he reiterates the rebuild process at the club may be a long one.

For Newcastle meanwhile, it’s been three straight victories on the bounce, putting them just inside the European spots on goal difference heading into this weekend, as Eddie Howe’s men have witnessed a noticeable shift in goal-scoring form across the last few weeks, with only table-toppers Liverpool eclipsing them in total goals scored since November 1st.

Chief among those goal scorers for the Magpies is Alexander Isak, who has not only netted in both of his recent two starts, including scoring a hat-trick against Ipswich last week, but who also sits fourth in the Premier League Golden Boot race this season.

Given Manchester United’s ongoing defensive issues this season, ranking fifth-from-bottom in goals allowed since December 1st, as well as giving up the second-highest amount of chances inside their own 6 yard box also, getting the in-form Isak at plus money to get on the scoresheet in this one looks like a value play ahead of Monday’s matchup.
