Phoenix Suns at Atlanta Hawks Analysis
The big issue in this game is that Trae Young is a true game time decision, and right now the books have the Suns as a -4 favorite, but that line will surely move if Trae is out. The total is 220, and from an entertainment standpoint I hope we get a full strength Trae Young as the Hawks and Suns have been fantastic recently.
The Hawks have won seven out of eight and the suns are an insane 40-6 their last 46 games. Despite the injury status, I still think there’s a play somewhere in here we can make.
The Suns Dominant
This team just keeps winning as Chris Paul is putting together maybe his most incredible season ever. He’s a master at dissecting teams, and his stats and the team wins reflect it. They have Ayton and Crowder back at full strength which means even more trouble for opponents.
I’m a bit hesitant with looking at recent against the spread trends with this team as they’ve been without Ayton for a while, and I don’t know exactly how he will affect the spread, but Phoenix is 7-3 against the spread their last 10 and they’ve won 10 straight games by five or more.
Devin Booker is probably licking his chops to take on this Atlanta as the Hawks are second worst in the league defending shooting guards, and Booker has scored 28 or more points in nine out of ten games.
Hawks Streaks
The Hawks are a strange team as they’ve had losing streaks of five and six games, but they’ve had winning streaks of seven games twice. So they get in and out of these grooves, and they are coming off a loss to Toronto which broke a seven game win streak, but they were without Trae Young.
This is why the Trae Young status is so important. The Hawks are 7-3 against the spread their last 10, and a surprising 1-4 over/under their last five.
A good sign for Atlanta is that Capela has started picking up his defensive efficiency recently, and along with John Collins they’ve moved into the top half of the league defending centers and power forwards which is a huge upgrade with how they started the year.
Phoenix Suns at Atlanta Hawks Prediction
Even if Trae Young plays, I think he’s going to be a bit hampered and against CPR and Devin Booker that’s a bad sign, and I think Phoenix takes care of business.
It takes a big shooting night from teams to beat Phoenix, and I don’t see it tonight. Both teams rank in the top 3 in offensive efficiency, but Phoenix ranks 6th in defensive efficiency, and Atlanta ranks 27th. It’ll be too much to overcome tonight even if Trae Young Plays.
OFFICIAL PLAY: Suns -4…Suns Money Line at -165 is good enough for me as well.
Thursday’s #NBA Betting Notes:

Phoenix Suns at Atlanta Hawks Preview from GoldSheet
Phoenix has won 11 straight while Atlanta just had its 7-game string of wins snapped against Toronto on Monday.
The Hawk preparation likely a bit off facing the rarely seen Western Conference leading Suns sandwiched between a pair of games against the Raptors, who are vying with Atlanta for playoff position in the East.
The Hawks lost and failed to cover the first meeting with Phoenix, a 121-117 upset of the Suns back on Nov. 6 in the Footprint Center. Suns’ strongest role this season has been as a road favorite (12-6 vs. the number), while home dog is Atlanta’s worst (just 6-10 vs. the points).
That night Trae Young had 31 pts. & 13 assists, yet the Hawk bettors were denied a cover late on a Chris Paul take foul FT with 6.5 seconds left, thanks to a 38-point contribution by Sun G Devin Booker and a 51%-43% shooting edge. Play Phoenix.
