Spurs vs Kings Analysis
The Sacramento Kings come into Thursday night’s matchup with the San Antonio Spurs coming off a Mardi Gras whipping in New Orleans. The Spurs haven’t played since Monday and will be well-rested when they host the Kings tonight. These teams are 1-1 against each other this season and both teams are 1-1 against the spread.
Neither team has an injury to any important player so each team should be at full strength. The Spurs have lost their last two games and are certainly looking to right the ship against a team that is looking up to them in the standings.
Spurs Enjoy this Role
The Spurs are two games behind the Pelicans for the final spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament, and a win at home vs the Kings would certainly help their cause. The Spurs are 2-3 in their last five games, but the Spurs are 9-4 this season as a home favorite and are 3-1 as a favorite of 6.5 to 9 points.
Mardi Gras Hangover
Since trading away two core members of their team, the Kings have gone 1-5 straight up and have the 21st ranked offense in the NBA. The Kings lost by 30 points just last night and though D’Aaron Fox hax had 25, the team only scored 95.
In order to win this game, the Kings need to take advantage of a lackluster Spurs defense. The Kings are still 14th in the NBA in scoring, but that number will continue to decrease if they keep playing this lowly brand of basketball.
Spurs vs Kings Prediction
I recommended the San Antonio Spurs -6.5 points. The Spurs are not significantly better than the Kings in any one area, but I would expect the Spurs to come out with energy in essentially a must-win contest. If the Spurs want to make the play-in tournament, every game matters, and beating up on a lesser foe would help their cause.
The Kings should be exhausted after their road trip from New Orleans to San Antonio which included a 30-point blowout loss. The Kings may score a lot of points to keep up with the Spurs, but I think the Spurs pull away at the end.
