Red Sox vs Blue Jays Analysis

The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays meet in Game two of a three game series at Fenway Park. The Blue Jays record dropped to 6-5 after getting edged out by the Red Sox 2-1.

The Red Sox moved to 6-5 themselves to move into a three-way tie for first place in the A.L. East with the New York Yankees and the aforementioned Blue Jays.

Today’s starters are Nick Pivetta for the Sox and Jose Berrios for the Jays. First pitch is slated at 7:10 for this 4/20 action from Fenway Park.

Jays Need More From Berrios

The Toronto Blue Jays have been a high scoring team with an average of 4.2 runs per game with a team OPS of .753.

However that wasn’t the case last night as Toronto was held to a single run on a 2nd inning Zack Collins solo home run. Yusei Kikuchi pitched well in the no decision, spreading out three hits and three walks over five innings with only one run allowed.

Relief pitcher Yimi Garcia took the loss as he allowed what was ultimately the game winning run in the seventh. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. did go two for three but provided no fireworks.

The Blue Jays are hoping for Jose Berrios looks more like his old self on Wednesday night. After only lasting a third of an inning on Opening Day, Berrios two starts stat line is horrendous.

He’s allowed seven earned runs on nine hits, five walks and three home runs in only 5.1 innings pitched.

Sox Win Close One

The Boston Red Sox now sit a game above .500 a winning a close one last night at Fenway. Nathan Eovaldi only pitched 4.2 innings but only allowed a single run on seven hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

The offensive star was newly acquired Trevor Story who had an RBI double and a walk. Connor Wong drove in what would be the game winning run after being recently called up from the Minor Leagues.

The Red Sox offense has been surprisingly average to start the season as they are yet to take off. Alex Verdugo has been stellar with three home runs and eight RBI. Nick Pivetta will toe the rubber for the home team in this contest.

It’s been tough sledding for Pivetta, he has allowed four earned runs in each of his two starts while taking the loss in both of those games. He enters this game with a 9.39 ERA and 1.83 WHIP.

Red Sox vs Blue Jays Prediction

This game is a virtual pick’em with the money line set at -120 for the Blue Jays and +100 for the Red Sox with a total of 9. Both teams struggled to score runs at frigid Fenway last night, but both also have pitchers that have struggled to open the season.

They actually have similar bullpen rankings as well 3.38 and 3.48 bullpen ERAs respectively. It’s tough to tell what will win out between cold bats and poor pitching.

There isn’t much of an edge in this one, so I will make take the even money with the home team as a lean.

Prediction: Boston Red Sox Moneyline +110
