Suns vs Pelicans Analysis

With the series tied 2-2, we head back to Phoenix where the Suns look to take control of the series against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Pelicans won Game Four 118-103 with a dominating second half. Brandon Ingram led the way for his team with a game high 30 points, while DeAndre Ayton scored a team high 23 points in the loss. Tip-off is slated for 10:00 PM EST from the Footprint Center in Phoenix.

Pelicans Playing with House Money

The New Orleans Pelicans were able to even the series 2-2 by hustling on defense and controlling the boards. The Pels outrebounded the Suns 48-33 while grabbing 19 offensive rebounds.

They also got a little bit of help as they had a 42-15 edge at the free throw line. As we mentioned Brandon Ingram led the way in scoring with a game high 30 points.

Jonas Valanciunas has been a monster on the boards grabbing 64 rebounds in the first four games. Jose Alvarado was a complete pest guarding Chris Paul.

Alvarado and company frustrated the aging veteran into mistakes and held him to only four points on two of eight from the field. The Pelicans seem like sharks circling the water and they smell blood with Devin Booker out for the series.

Veteran player C.J McCollum realizes the opportunity and will look to take advantage in Game Five.

No Booker More Problems

It’s pretty obvious that the Phoenix Suns are missing Devin Booker in a major way. They were able to sneak away with a Game Three victory but are clearly less confident without him.

Booker isn’t due back until early May at best as he recovers from a hamstring strain. In the Game Four loss the Suns were out hustled and out rebounded.

Head Coach Monty Williams was obviously displeased with the 42-15 discrepancy at the charity stripe and he voiced that during the post-game interview.

DeAndre Ayton led the team in scoring with 23 points in the loss while adding eight rebounds. Javale McGee was the next best scorer on the team with 14 points which isn’t necessarily a good thing.

Someone else on this team needs to step it up in the scoring department or we are going to see a rare 8 seed winning a first round series against the #1 seed.

Suns vs Pelicans Prediction

The Phoenix Suns enter this contest as 6.5 point favorites with a total set at 214.5. The Suns are returning home and should which should make Chris Paul much more comfortable and confident.

Some of the Suns role players should see increased scoring roles. C.J. McCollum and Brandon Ingram have both been shooting lights out and Jonas Valanciunas has been an offensive rebounding machine, so the Pelicans should continue to score.

The total in this series went from 224 in Game One to 221.5 in Game Two and now the total has plummeted to 214.5. The obvious reason for the severe drop is Devin Booker being out, but these teams combined for 122 points the second half of Game Three without Booker contributing a single point.

Booker also plays tremendous defender that won’t be on the floor for this one. Three of the four games in this series have eclipsed this total as well as three of the four regular season meetings. This dip in the total seems like an overreaction we can definitely take advantage of. Take the over with confidence.

Prediction: Over 214.5
