Twins vs Astros Analysis
The Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins meet up for the second game of a three game series at Target Field on Wednesday night.
The Astros continued their winning ways with a dominant 5-0 victory. Maybe we should check the odds on an exact score of a 5-0 Houston victory, because they have won two straight 5-0 games directly after winning three straight games by the exact same score of 3-2.
The Twins will give the ball to veteran righty Chris Archer, he will be opposed by Jose Urquidy from the Astros. First pitch is slated for 7:40 PM EST.
Houston Sets Sights On 8th Straight Victory
The Houston Astros won their 7th straight game to improve to 19-11 on the season. Veteran ace Justin Verlander was otherworldly, he nearly through a no-hitter and ended up with 8 scoreless innings while only allowing one hit and striking out five.
Alex Bregman was only Astro with a multi-hit game as he went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI. This was a typical effort for this Houston squad, dominant pitching performances that overcome their lack of hitting and scoring.
The Astros lineup has underperformed as they rank 18th in OPS on the season. Houston gives the nod to right-handed starter Jose Urquidy. Urquidy is 2-1 with a 4.56 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. He was lights out in his last start, throwing 6 shutout innings on six hits and a walk while striking out three.
Twins Lead A.L. Central
The Minnesota Twins have been a pleasant surprise so far this season. At 18-12 they find themselves in first place in the American League Central, 2.5 games ahead of the Chicago White Sox.
They did have a three game winning snapped in yesterday’s 5-0 loss to Houston. Starter Joe Ryan only lasted four innings and allowed four earned runs on four hits and a absurd five free passes. No Twins hitter had multiple hits or an extra base hit.
The Twins offense has performed well as they rank 8th in OPS while scoring over four runs per game. Minnesota turns to former Rays starter Chris Archer who has been mediocre this season.
He has a solid 3.26 ERA, but doesn’t have decision yet as he hasn’t made it through the fifth inning yet this year. It’s also concerning that he has already allowed 5 homeruns with a 10.8 walk percentage in just over 19 innings pitched.
Twins vs Astros Prediction
The Detroit Tigers are slightly favored with a -120 money line, while the Oakland A’s are +100 with a total set at 7.5. This game is a tough handicap because these teams are literally mirror images of each other. They are two of the worst hitting clubs in the MLB.
Both teams are turning to young left-handed starters making their first couple of career starts. Both teams also have top ten bullpens. Good luck picking a side in this barn burner. The only logical thing to do is make a very small play on the under.
Neither team can hit their way out of a wet paper bag. They also have not seen these starters before and both bullpens are fully capable of getting outs and limiting runs.
Prediction: Houston Astros Moneyline -120
