Angels at Rangers Analysis
The Los Angeles Angels conclude a three-game series at Globe Life Field versus the Texas Rangers, and try to avoid the sweep.
Shohei Ohtani will take the mound against Dane Dunning. Last night the Rangers got some good late hitting to get the 10-5 win.
Angels Preview
Even after losing two games in a row to the Rangers, the Halos are still one of the best teams in baseball with a 24-15 record. It took a few weeks but the lineup started to hit well and consistently, and the pitching made big strides to become one of the best staffs in MLB.
Ohtani has posted MVP-like numbers to start the 2022 campaign, with a 2.78 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in six starts and 32.1 innings.
His control has been outstanding, giving up just seven walks and three home runs. The only bad start was in Arlington back on April 14 where he gave up six hits and six earned runs in 3.2 innings.
The Angels can hit the baseball really, really well as they have a 2nd best OPS of .743 and team average of .247. Although the staff has struggled the last two games, they still have the 7th best team ERA of 3.38 and a 1.11 WHIP.
However, the bullpen has regressed to the middle of the pack with a 16th best ERA of 3.61. Ohtani will need to have a good start and eat innings to give their bullpen a rest and the Halos the best chance to win.
Rangers Preview
Dane Dunning has had a solid start to 2022. In seven starts and 37.2 innings he has a 4.06 and 1.25 WHIP with 37 strikeouts. Dunning had a rough last start in Boston on May 13, giving up six hits and five earned runs in 5.2 innings.
While the Rangers have had good recent success, they’ve been exceptions to the rule as their season-long stats aren’t that impressive.
Their team ERA is 24th best at 4.12 with a 1.29 WHIP, and they’re 26th in team OPS at .637 and batting average of .219. Unless this is the start of a longer-term trend, it looks like the offense is due to come back down to earth.
Angels at Rangers Prediction
The Angels are too good of a team to get swept three in a row and they have their best pitcher getting the start. I see Texas due for negative regression and LA due for some of the positive variety. That’s why I’ll take the Halos on the moneyline.
Prediction: Los Angels Angels Moneyline
