Edmonton Oilers vs Calgary Flames Analysis
The Calgary Flames will look to restore home ice advantage on Tuesday night as they trail two games to one in the best of seven series against the Edmonton Oilers in this conference second round.
After scoring 12 goals over the opening two games, the Flames offensive output seems to have deserted them, with just 1 goal from 33 shots in Game 3.
Edmonton are now on a roll after closing out the previous series against the LA Kings with a two game sweep and have now won four of their last five overall with Kane, Draisaitl and McDavid combining for 5 goals and 11 assists over their last two starts.
Calgary Needs To Find A Way To Stop McDavid
One of the players of the postseason so far is unquestionably Oilers center Connor McDavid who has absolutely owned the Flames over these last two games.
McDavid already led the league in total points and goals created as it was this season, but arguably his best work has come over these playoffs where the Canadian has amassed 23 points from just the opening 10 games, with only the great Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux owning better opening playoff records than McDavid.
If Calgary are going to overcome Edmonton in this series, priority number one needs to be in limiting McDavid’s output in games.
Edmonton’s Offense Heating Up Nicely
While the Oilers averaged an impressive 3.86 goals per game over their conference first round victory against the LA Kings, they’ve improved on that even further over this second round scoring an average of 5.00 goals per game against the Flames in this series so far.
Only Colorado has scored more goals per game than Edmonton has in these playoffs and no team in this postseason has been able to match Edmonton’s electric 11.73% shots to goal percentage this year.
Edmonton Oilers vs Calgary Flames Game 4 Prediction
We’re taking the Under 6.5 goals on Tuesday in Game 4 between the Oilers and the Flames.
Calgary’s shots to goal percentage has dropped to just 6.86% over these playoffs, the lowest connection rate out of any team still left in the postseason.
Edmonton are playing really well in front of nets right now but we expect a much better defensive effort from the Flames tonight with Markstrom expected in-between the pipes and the Under has cashed in five of the last seven between these two playing in Edmonton as well.
Take the Under 6.5 goals tonight between the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers in Alberta.
Prediction: Under 6.5 Goals Scored
