Italy vs Germany Analysis
Hansi Flick’s undefeated Germany side travel to Bologna on Saturday to face an Italy side who are going through one of their toughest spells in recent years.
Italy exited this year’s World Cup qualifying stage through a late injury time goal against North Macedonia, which sent the European champions crashing out of their second-straight World Cup back in March.
Germany Blowing Through Opponents
Since former Bayern boss Hansi Flick took charge of the national team after last summer’s Euro tournament, the Germans have been simply blowing away their competition, outscoring opponents by a 31-2 goal advantage in World Cup qualifier games since last September.
The only negative on that number is the fact that Germany has barely played anyone with a pulse over that run, Italy conquerors North Macedonia and Iceland being among the best in that group. So Flick will face his first serious test here on Saturday against Italy on the road.
All Downhill For Italy Since The Summer
After an epic summer 2021 which saw the Italians become the European champions for only the second time in their history, it’s been all downhill for Roberto Mancini’s men since.
Just two wins from eight in competitive games since the Euro’s eventually culminated in crashing out of the World Cup to North Macedonia back in March, with another 3-0 loss to Argentina on Wednesday in the Finalissima seeing the Italians at arguably their lowest ebb in quite some time.
A fresh tournament might be just what the Italians need to put things right here on Saturday.
Italy vs Germany Prediction
Germany has looked like a freight train over recent games while Italy are going through one of their toughest periods in recent memory, yet despite this, money has continued to filter in on Italy in the lead up to this game pushing it from +0 to -0.25 on the Italians.
That’s telling and shows the Italians are arguably undervalued here at home and we may be getting them at a decent price based off their recent record.
As we mentioned on Tuesday’s Stoppage Time show over on Wagertalk TV on Youtube where we advised a play on the Italians at +0, that international H2H record is jarring and until Germany can show that they can beat this Italian side in 90 minutes, even one struggling as much as this current crop are, then at a pick ‘em line I’ll always look to back the Italians, especially at home.
