UFC Fight Night: Neil Magney vs Carlos Prates

UFC 276 Predictions and Betting Odds

UFC 276 returns to T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada on Saturday, July 2 to kick off eight consecutive weekends of fights, including three PPV events. Saturday’s card is headlined by not one, but two championship bouts, as Israel Adesanya looks to defend his middleweight title against Jared Cannonier, and Alexander Volkanovski gears up to take on Max Holloway in a much-anticipated trilogy bout.

Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier

Moneyline: Israel Adesanya -475 vs Jared Cannonier +380

Fight Time: Main Card Starts at 10:00pm ET / 7:00pm PT

TV: ESPN+ Pay Per View

It’s been quite the journey for Jared Cannonier, who originally debuted at heavyweight and has gone 5-1 at middleweight since his transition in 2018. He’s coming off back-to-back victories over Kelvin Gastelum and most recently, Derek Brunson.

Then there’s the champ, Israel Adesanya who is 22-1 in MMA, with his only loss to the bigger man Jan Blachowicz in Izzy’s attempt at the light heavyweight title in March 2021. Adesanya has truly dominated this division since his UFC debut and looks to do the same on Saturday.

If the fight with Jan exposed anything, it’s that Adesanya is weak off his back, a position he has rarely found himself in any middleweight bouts. Since that light heavyweight attempt, Adesanya has won two unanimous decisions over Marvin Vettori and Robert Whittaker, both of whom tried to grapple their way to victory.

However, the champ’s long stature and strong base stood the test each time, and it’s hard to see any path to victory for Cannonier on the ground, despite his BJJ purple belt status. Then again, with Adesanya’s kickboxing prowess, it will be hard for Cannonier to engage in an all out striking battle.

This fight could be a tiring one, as the O/U is set at 4.5 rounds, and once again Adesanya is dominating the betting landscape, currently sitting as a -475 favorite. Considering Cannonier’s weight history and his last loss by KO coming at the hands of a light heavyweight, he should be able to engage and endure a striking battle, but again, it’s hard to see a path to victory for The Killa Gorilla.

Pick: Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya by Decision +100 (Caesars).

Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway Analysis

Saturday, July 2 UFC 276 Betting Notes (Courtesy of Caesars)
Moneyline: Alexander Volkanovski -210 vs Max Holloway +180
Rounds: 4.5 Rounds (Over -240 / Under +200)

In a few different UFC weight classes, we have seen the top two fighters in the division put on some of the sport’s greatest fights (Moreno vs Figueredo and Usman vs Covington bouts most recently), while the rest of their respective divisions struggle when given an opportunity to dethrone the champs. It’s tough to say what the best trilogy of all time might be, but this featherweight triumph will go down as one of the greatest rivalries in UFC history.

Volkanovski dethroned Holloway in December 2019 at UFC 245 by way of unanimous decision, and then again by split-decision in July 2020 at UFC 251. Since then, both fighters have endured success, as Holloway has earned back-to-back Fight of the Night bonuses, putting on striking clinics against Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez; and Volk earning both a Fight and Performance of the Night in his last two bouts against Brian Ortega and the Korean Zombie.

Both of these featherweights’ previous fights against each other were razor thin in terms of advantage, but the odds still have the champ Volkanovski at -210 favorite and Holloway at a +180 underdog price.

With this fight favored -190 to go the distance, and their last two bouts ending in that fashion, either fighter to win via decision seems like solid value.

Pick: Volkanovski by Decision +120 / Holloway by Decision +300 – .6% on the Champ and .4% on the Challenger. Crack a tab and enjoy the fight.
